(43,392 posts)The states to watch are the Rethug trifecta (Gov. and both chambers) ones that have incumbent Dems in swing districts and/or are swing states (for US Senate).
AZ, NH, FL, GA, MO, IN, OH, IA.
Also watch WI, despite us having Evers as a Gov. Watch MI and PA as well, same shit, smaller chance, but still significant. Beware of Rethug control of state Supreme Courts as well.

(80 posts)Celerity - They are testing already and you are right that 2022 will see them intensify those efforts. To stop it I think we must strategize how to break up their base. That may sound impossible, but I don't believe that is so. With 70+ million votes they have a lot of power and it would be hard to break, but there are already fractures in there and there are fault lines that shift. They use fractures and fault lines to split off Democrats (some Obama voters switched to tRump) and I see no reasons why with careful positioning, framing and messaging the Dems can't go for the fracture lines in the Republican base. The more the base fractures, fails and crumbles the further the Republicans will have to go to maintain power. Let's make it as difficult for them to achieve their ends as we can In doing so hopefully we can keep them from seizing control

(3,665 posts)some really smart people on our side. The other side...mostly not so smart. They have money which makes them dangerous and hate which makes them even more dangerous, but we have 'right' and I have to believe that that along with really smart people will be enough. Otherwise, I would just give up...which I'm not willing to do.

(80 posts)Biophilic - The fight against the political extremes is a battle that never ends. The intensity of the fight rises and ebbs with history, but the threat is always there. As we can see, that threat has been increasing in recent years and so now it is our turn in history to protect democracy. Many have done it before and in the arena of rhetoric and debate I feel we must all do our part. Good to see that you will not be giving up - Me neither.

(3,665 posts)doing the right thing. I know better now, but I believe that we CAN do the right thing if we just keep trying and trying forcefully. We honestly can't give in to the repugs even a few inches. Glad you are with me in this. There are future generations that are depending on us and I would hate to fail them at this point.

Just call it fake news, someone cheated, fraud, pass a law or two to make things 'right'.
(Now, where did they learn that? Oh yeah, Trump derangement syndrome at work!)
Most of us learnt at an early age reality doesn't bend to our wishes and expectations, but we must adjust those to fit reality.
But . . . some people haven't learnt that lesson in life, they still think wishful thinking and reality warping works!
Why do they even bother?
The adults in the room need to say 'No! It doesn't work that way! Grow a brain!'
Republicans still think they are the dominant party that holds all the power and calls all the shots.
That state of play disappeared last big election. Except some Republicans have trouble adjusting to the new reality.
