Rep. Adam Kinzinger warned Republicans that the MAGA sedition riot on January 6th will have an impact on the midterm elections, regardless of whether there is an independent commission or not, and "particularly if us as Republicans don't take ownership for what happened."
During an interview on Fox News Sunday, Kinzinger was asked by host Chris Wallace what the commission hoped to learn that Congressional committees looking at the matter couldn't answer already.
Kinzinger told Wallace that we need "a comprehensive look at what happened that led up to January 6th, who was talking to who? What were the lies?"
Kinzinger warned that if this commission fails, "Nancy Pelosi will run a select committee and this could go all the way to 2024."
Wallace asked whether McConnell might be able to block the commission, and Kinzinger rightfully pointed out that they're not going to be able to run away from the issue in the midterm elections.
"I get it, it may have a political impact" he continued, "but I'm going to tell you what had a political impact on 2022, if anything does, it's going to be the attack on January 6th and then the subsequent denial to look in the mirror, tell the truth, take ownership for what we've done and recommit to tell the American people and Republican voters the truth."
They haven't paid a political price for their lying yet, so time will tell as to his predictions on the midterms. His party is busy doing their best to rig the next one rather than address the concerns that any of their voters might have.
Kinzinger went onto ding Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for failing to "tell the truth to the Republicans and to the American people" and promoting the lie that the election was stolen from Trump.
Sadly, as long as Kinzinger remains a voice in the wilderness in his party, there will be no accountability for any of them.

This is actually good for him.
I don't trust him either. He voted against impeachment the first time for a ridiculously lame reason.
He is a "small government, fiscal conservative" type.
But, I've had dinner with him twice.
He's a R, through & through, and I disagree with the preponderance of what he believes, but I know he's not on board the crazy train.
Geez, the Free-Dumb caucus primaried him in 2014, because he wouldn't listen to that crowd. His opponent got creamed. By more than he won the GE.
Same thing last year because he refused to kiss the ring. Same result.
I know he's projecting forward with his out-front "voice of the resistance". But, his dislike of T***p and his water carriers is genuine.

(30,776 posts)I may end up in the 17th. I would prefer that.
In the past, I have been in the 17th, 14th and 15th.

(65,230 posts)If so, we end up in the 11th with D, Bill Foster as our rep.

(30,776 posts)He has been our rep in the past. I am not always that thrilled with him.

(65,230 posts)I trust your judgment, but I know Kinzinger, and I'd rather have Foster.
AK is way too worried about farmers to be of any use to the rest of us.
murielm99
(30,776 posts)so he had better be worried about farmers.
I have asked him questions about agriculture. He is profoundly ignorant on the topic.

(65,230 posts)...it's possible we could end up in IL-1, which is Bobby Rush's district.
That'd be ok.
Or into IL-2, with D, Robin Kelly.

(2,114 posts)No way. The KQP is corrupt to the core, and will never follow Christ's instructions.
They will point the finger elsewhere, like always. No truth. No integrity. No honor. That is the shameful, pitiful condition of the modern republican party.

(50,318 posts)campaign season and unless a big story like million dollar bills growing on trees breaks, the media is going to be all over it. The GOP would be smart to get ahead of it, but that's not possible given the 6 brain cells among them.

(43,358 posts)The midterms, and the country, depend on Biden's success economically, and on separating MAGAWorld from Faux Snooze by substituting existential alien invaders in their minds with hypersonic spaceship sightings.
It sort of worked in the 1960s.

(43,358 posts)He and the old GOP doesn't want to take responsibility, even though they now admit they're OK with suppressing votes in 2022.
The Trump GQP surely won't take responsibility.
I get tired of interviews from this guy. All he does is tell you everything with the old GOP is ok and then state a few ideology promo sentences. It's free PR while they try to figure out what to do. He's overrated and getting too much press for a freshman Congressman.
