(21,362 posts)Why will it make McConnell hurt? Maybe 2 people from the GQP will vote for the commission.
Time's a wasting, the vote should have happened right after the House vote so that Speaker Pelosi can proceed with the investigation with a select committee.

Personally I have nothing against hearings. They serve a purpose. But I have to agree that if you're looking for something with teeth -- and results. Justice is the place.

(15,646 posts)that the Rs neutered, would Biden have so clearly beaten the predecessor? Im not sure. Spectacles sometimes have value, significant value in some cases. With 2022 slightly less than 18 months away, this could very well be one of those sometimes. If it were my choice, Id probably lean that way.

(81,323 posts)Havent they made their strategy MORE than clear - ever since the Obama years? Flat-out 100% NON-cooperation. NO to everything. Just because.
Havent we learned ANYTHING by now?
With THIS bunch, there simply wont be ANY way to do business with them. We should go it alone. Get DC statehood DONE. FIRST. TWO MORE Dems in the Senate. Throw in Puerto Rico for good measure. SNEAK it in if we have to. TWO MORE Senators yet again. That gives us a 54-vote majority - with the likelihood that those four new votes will be secure Democratic votes for a nice long time. Time enough to KICK GOP ASS and get the rest of our agenda passed. And not even bothering with the damned republi-CONS OR what they want.
The time to be nice and congenial and bipartisan is OVER.

(42,770 posts)We took power on January 21st. So why didn't this idea get proposed in February? Except for Impeachment II, we always seem to take so long to act. There was genuine outrage after it happened.

(42,770 posts)But realistically, we've already had hearings and Honore's probe and Impeachment. What else can be uncovered? The things that matter have been hidden so far:
1. Who was responsible for slowing response/assistance to Capitol Police?
2. Who ordered the bombing of party headquarters?

(81,323 posts)We just have to make sure our voters COME OUT AND VOTE!!!
Even now, we should be figuring out how many different ways there might be - to GET AROUND the new voter suppression laws at the state level.
And lean hard on our senators to pass S-1. Especially that pathetic idiot Joe Manchin. Oh hes disappointed now because his dear GOP buddies wont play, after all?
Seriously?
He seriously thought theyd see reason and come around? Exactly which galaxy does he think he lives in?
Good Grief!!!!!

(2,935 posts)They have their won fake media bubble where they are been encouraged to vote no. Ironically, they will get more blow back if they vote for the commission.
We need to break or destroy the fake lobbyist fuelled media complex that the right have built, as its the main obstacle to a normal functionally run government. It also brings fascism ever closer to reality, as the right have lost all principles they have ever pretended to care for.

(3,396 posts)Nothing embarrasses them, absolutely nothing.
Just think about it, if a buffoon like trump, who uses diapers, who spews lies faster than a speeding bullet, who if from a different family would embarrass everyone (Stephen Miller's family is one example), who the entire World recognizes as a clown, a buffoon, and you know all the rest. If republicans feel no shame for kissing the buffoon's dirty diapers, do you really believe any of these will embarrass them?
Think about it, who are the republican supporters?

(801 posts)So if the bi partisan commission is defeated in the Senate ,YES, that'll happen, Nancy has made it clear to have in independent investigation, probably composed of mostly democrats, i.e., Bengazi.
So knowing this, why would the Republicans want this instead????? We know they're crazy, but not stoopid!! They have their eyes on the long range plans and goals. How are they gonna counteract this apparent loss?
Perhaps they're depending on voter suppression to carry them through the midterm?
Help me here...

(5,754 posts)Can subpoenas be enforced? Can there be consequences for perjury in testimony to Congress? Videos exist. All of the evidence from phone logs and cameras is out there.

Everyone blathers on about how "smart" Ted-"I'm gonna flee an ice storm by going to Cancun and no one will catch me"-Cruz is.
Oh really?
He seems like a moron to me.
Makes easily avoidable gaffes ALL THE TIME and is constantly outfoxed by inanimate objects.
And he's supposed to be a smart one?
Mittens Romney left a dog on top of a car to die and was impressed with the height of trees in Michigan. He's also a dumbfuck.

(1,910 posts)We pay attention to it so it seems like a very big deal. Its easy to lose perspective.
Of course the investigation must happen but lets not think it will change any minds either way. Less than a million people watch Rachel and Lawrence, most people barely pay attention to the news besides a very casual glance.
So in the end its about governing well and making a majority of voters feel their futures and their kid's futures are brighter under Dems than Repugs.

(2,541 posts)Why do Dems continue to act out this play with the GOP...are they really that afraid of being the majority and making a decision along party lines? The GOP continues to string this issue out by dropping crumbs of potential bipartisanship, Romney being the latest crumb to drop. Every day the GOP delays this is a win for them. The Dems should have went with a Select Committee months ago or better yet (as has been mention) straight to a Special Prosecutor.
