It took me a while to get thru it all but I wanted to see how many times he mentioned Mike Pence during his speech? Because I was curious as to why the mob was yelling "Hang Mike Pence", as they attacked our Capitol. (He mentioned the necessity for Pence to do the right thing about 4 or 5 times, by my count.) This was important.
His speech went on for over 70 minutes. At approximately the 50:00 minute mark, he began a litany of lies that went on for more than 10 minutes! The numbers that he quoted were meant to deceive his supporters and to incite them to violence. There is no doubt in my mind after I carefully watched this full video.

(1,000 posts)someone has to do the dirty work. But I can't stand the look of his hateful face or the words from his malignant pie hole. Just watched a short clip on CBS Morning about the Professor who participated in the 1619 project. Mr. Revisionist History gave it his spin, which was as based in reality or fact as anything else. Beyond the damage done to this nation, how embarrassing is it that someone this plainly inept, as well as malignant, was given that much power???

(25,253 posts)He didn't march with the crowd. Where did he position himself? Who was he with? Why are there no pics of him while the Capitol was being breached?
We've heard that he was glued to a TV watching the 'Capitol carnage'.
During that period didn't McCarthy talk to him? Who else might have talked with him?
Why do we have so little info about that period of time after his speech to the crowd on 1/6/2021?
This needs to be investigated?
Was he directing the coup?

(111,104 posts)I recall Ben Sasse saying that he was gleeful watching the attack on our Capitol.
Who did he hear that from? How did he know that?
Who was in the room with him as he was watching it on TV?
How many people tried to get him to stop the rampage?
There are many questions that need to be answered, I would agree.

(21,500 posts)watching what was happening. Ivanka was there and so was Don Jr, with his girlfriend, laughing and celebrating to LOUD music. It was a full blown party scene. I saw the video online a couple times, but don't remember the source to post a link. At that point, I think he just enjoyed being a spectator while others in his circle (Miller, Stone) did the coordinating, with help from House members..

(7,631 posts)I want to make clear that several news sources (CNBC and Snopes for starters) stated that this video was made prior to tRumps speech, which then his speech sparked the Capital siege by his cult members. This criminal crime family wasn't in the tent watching the carnage on screens. They still need to be locked up.

(21,500 posts)I didn't realize that it was in a tent before the speech. Thought they were watching the action at the Capitol.
That's some tent!
So nobody knows where they went after the speech? Surely someone knows.

(7,631 posts)I believe that he was in the White House after his speech watching the Capital riot ensue on television since he stated that the rioters "looked low class". He would have needed a protective place to be knowing that he started a riot with Rudy's help.
I didn't want any of my DU family thinking that the tRumps were watching the actual riot while they were inside the tent.

(269,067 posts)Why did the WH never feel threatened and call for protection?
Simple answer - the attempted coup was orchestrated by the insurrectionist in chief

(633 posts)For me, all I need to know is that he did nothing to stop it! The minute they were forcing their way into the Capitol is when Trump should have been screaming "What the hell are they doing? Get the National Guard over there NOW to disperse the crowd. If they don't stop, tear gas them!!" But did he do that?? No! He waited hours and just let it all continue. And even had the nerve to say "we love them and they are special people!"
So no one can tell me that this is not something he wanted to have happen!!

(47,517 posts)After a long life, I've come to the conclusion that of all the human sins, willful dishonesty is probably the worst. It can cause such long range problems and opens the door to all the other sins. Having watched years of "Law and Order", my daughter once remarked it seemed that most crimes originated with lying and cheating. Everything else was usually just a byproduct of the "original sin".
We can see that clearly with Donald Trump, as well as other authoritarian tyrants. He just kept lying and the consequences of those lies was and is devastating on a very large scale.
Parents, teach your children well from a very young age.
(Can't believe you sat through that for the entire speech. I can't even tolerate short video clips.)

(111,104 posts)They destroy everything they penetrate.
The previous Administration began with the lie about the Inauguration crowd and never stopped lying. They were able to lie about everything. The Washington Post stopped documenting the count at about 30,000 lies and misstatements.
(It was not an easy task to sit through but I wanted to see how intent he was on turning the crowd on Mike Pence?) I had to do it in shifts.

(47,517 posts)Looking back on my life, I can say that pretty much the worst things that have happened to me started with a lie. If you apply that on a large scale and you have war, famine, plague, and possibly the end of humanity.
When you take someone like Donald Trump, everything about him was a lie all the time. Even the trivial, superficial lies left a mark, such as the size of his Inauguration crowd. I have been around my share of extreme, compulsive liars, but it never dawned on me that tens of millions of people would buy into such outrageous, ridiculous lies as we've seen the past four years.
The Trump style lies are usually the kind that cause people to just snicker and shake their heads - the resident blowhard at the end of the bar or the obnoxious neighbor or relative vying for attention. In their limited little worlds, they often are disregarded, as an annoying, but harmless nuisance. But if you take such lies and broadcast them to millions of gullible people over and over again, the consequences can be devastating. So perhaps there is no such thing as a harmless lie, especially when you repeat it over and over again.
What I find extremely disturbing is that after a while, people started to take his constant lying for granted. Even the media got in the habit of just assuming that when he was speaking, he was lying. There was no more shock and awe, just business as usual in Trump world.

(111,104 posts)I'm sure this video will be a big part of the evidence.
(Sometimes I could watch for 5 minutes, sometimes for 10 minutes, sometimes a little longer, but I made it thru it. It was very instructive as to the degree he incited the mob.)

(2,541 posts)From top to bottom.
The planning for it started when DT began making the personnel changes at DOD after 1st going to the military to try and get them on board keeping him in power. This is why Liz Cheney got the former Defense Secretaries to sign that letter. The planning continued in the background while DT was still trying with the 60 Kraken lawsuits and attempts to get Republican SOSs in GA, AZ and elsewhere to find votes or fraud. The meetings 5 Jan that Tuberville posted from Trumps residence in the hotel was too solidify the plan.
By the time he walked on to that stage 6 Jan a violent overthrow was his plan. Rile up the supporters to create a large diversion and breach the Capitol while specific group of Proud Boys / Oath Keepers went after specific places in the Capitol once it was breached to try and get their hands on specific congress members like Pelosi, Pence and others.
There shouldnt be a commission about this. There should be a Special Prosecutor investigating this with the full powers that entails. A small group of people attempted to overthrow our government on 6 Jan and came much closer to accomplishing it then they ever should have.

(111,104 posts)I think you will be proven right.
If the Republicans vote down a Commission, I think the AG should be pressured to appoint a Special Prosecutor, with full subpoena powers and the US Marshals behind him.

(14,887 posts)observations and conclusion.
During the coverage I was talking with a friend in Washington State. At one point I said "This is a full on coup attempt". "I Know" she shouted back at me. After that exchange we watched mostly in stunned silence. We were coordinating our channel watching so we were watching the same coverage even though we were a thousand miles apart.

(90,719 posts)After whipping the crowd up by implying Pence was not going to do his bidding, he finished by saying, And if he doesnt do the right thing, well, I wont be too happy with him. Shaking his head, sarcastic tone.
Comey pointed out long ago that Trump operates the same way. HE never actually SAID to shoot Nancy in the Noggin, so how could he be blamed someone in the crowd of patriots did that? HE never SAID to put up a noose and hang Mike Pence, so how can he be blamed if some righteously angry patriots were that angry with the man who wouldnt change the outcome?
Thanks for, as someone already said, taking one for the team. I watched the footage before this, more than once. At this point I cant stand to hear his voice anymore without feeling ill all over again.
