Today is World Africa Today

Among the celebrations this year, we had our first direct flight from Jamaica to Nigeria. Let that sink in.

Africa Day, which falls on 25 May annually, is the official day of the African Union and marks African unity.

This day has been celebrated annually since 1963. That was the year of that famous speech by Selassie to the United Nations. Bob used excerpts in his classic - WAR!

I asked him if he knew about this guy I had just heard--Sunny Ade--but I pronounced his name
like Sunny Aid, and the accent is on the e. He seemed puzzled and then said "Oh, Sunny Ade".

I have an old buddy whose dad was stationed in Asmara, Ethiopia when he was a kid in the 60's.
He said he saw Selassie waving to the crowds from the back of a convertible.

the best of the best.

Do you know that I was literally listening to Dizzy in my car when he died. It was one of the strangest moments in my life because I didn't play that tape often.
