That’s a big deal, folks.

I know that in my state, New Mexico is at 54.2% of adults fully vaccinated. We are a relatively small state, and so I am a bit skeptical of your 50% number, but I hope it is accurate.

Even so, we are still a long way from herd immunity.

131 million Americans are fully vaccinated, and 209 million Americans are age 18 or over. So Joe Biden's announcement implies that the 104.5 million of the 131 million fully vaccinated people are adults and that the other 26.5 million people are adolescents (age 12-17).

MSNBC reports that so far that number is at 61%, so the math works out to be about 19 million adults need to receive at least their first dose to meet that goal. That's a little over 3 million people per week.
