Indiana AG says university mandating vaccines violates new state law

Indiana's Attorney General released a statement Wednesday condemning Indiana University's rule to mandate coronavirus vaccines for next semester and saying it violates a new state law.

"This session, members of the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation to codify in law a prohibition on COVID-19 vaccine passports, preventing public institutions from mandating proof of vaccination as a condition for receiving services or employment," Attorney General Todd Rokita (R) said.

"Indiana University's policy clearly runs afoul of state law-and the fundamental liberties and freedoms this legislation was designed to protect," Rokita added.

Indiana University announced last week that vaccinations would be required for all students and faculty.

Why does the Indiana General Assembly want to kill its state's citizens?

as a condition of remaining employed.

Everytime I mention that, someone always responds that until it is fully approved by the FDA, that can't be done.

See https://www.in.gov/isbvi/files/Religious-Exemption_2.pdf

Any parent not wanting to vaccinate their child could use this form, since their objections are pretty much based on faith, rather than on science.

IU is the best state school in IN. Bloomington is perhaps the only haven of Liberalism and Rational Thinking in IN.

This will go to court (where it may well lose). The law was passed to stick a finger in the eye of every Liberal in IN and nationwide. Legislating out of spite.

Kids can defer admission, take a year off to earn $$ and establish residency in the state.

I'm really NOT meaning to be snarky, but did you not think that in-state tuition differential occurs everywhere and not just in Indiana? Sorry, but your comment took me aback a bit. That would be one fact that I'd be willing to bet money nearly all here know and probably have bemoaned in the past.

I was trying to say that pulling kids out of IU to send them out of state is not always an option.

Regardless, this is political chest-beating by the know-nothings in the IN legislature. It's theatre.

I don't. I have a card where someone scrawled the dates of my shots.

I don't think a law banning "passports" could mean that the university can't require students to be vaccinated. They aren't requiring a passport, after all.

IU already requires students to have the usual vaccines-- measles, etc.

There is nothing official about that card that I know of. Heck I know lots of people who didn’t even get them. Some look different than others. There is no notarized signature or seal of approval. And you can buy them on ebay and fill them out yourself.

Its just a card with a record of when you got the shot.

You can't enter multiple countries without that card. It looks very similar to the CDC card

The vaccine card is just a record. There aren't actual vax passports, so they banned something that doesn't exist.
