https://www.rollcall.com/2021/05/27/they-wouldnt-care-if-i-was-dead-staffer-fallout-from-jan-6-continues/One House employee who works in the Capitol building and heard the rioters banging on their office door said seeing the lawmakers try to erase the destruction is jarring.
Thirteen staffers interviewed by CQ Roll Call, who were granted anonymity to speak candidly about their mental health and how they are coping, point to comments like those from Rep. Andrew Clyde. Despite helping barricade the House chamber from rioters, the Georgia Republican downplayed the events of Jan. 6 at a hearing earlier this month as acts of vandalism and said the rioters were orderly and looked like a normal tourist visit.
Five people died in the attack, including a police officer. Two officers died by suicide after the violence. Some officers have brain injuries; one lost an eye.
When I see those members in the hallway or the basement, I think to myself that they wouldnt care if I was dead, one staffer told CQ Roll Call.

(86,647 posts)They are that far over the edge in seeing their goal of oligarchy that nothing can sway them now. And that's why they are dangerous, as we have seen, they will stop at nothing.

On a heartening note, I was re-reading Berlin Diary, and the numbers and manic fervor of Trump's crowds are nowhere equal to Hitler's in 1934-5, and staffers are not being beaten up by passing Republicans for failing to show respect to Republican leaders.

(8,334 posts)Those who who work for the AOC, Clerk, CAO, Chaplin, Capitol Police, Sergeant at Arms, Parliamentarian and others who do not work on Partisan issues, those who are there to keep the trains running on time, keep the members safe, keep the members fed, make sure the members IT works, make sure there remarks make it tinto the congressional record, ensure the elevators work, the trash is emptied. That the lights are on and that the toilets flush....those that make the place work. The Republican members who downplay what they do and lie about their exposure to potential harm shoudd both be ashamed and should go fuck the selves.
This was as bad as we all saw it was, trying to say it did not happen is an insult to all who were there and were in harms way anyone with those who saw it as it was ongoing on television in real time.

By now, I've come to expect the worst of this bunch - from trump all the way down through the fetid bowels of the republi-CON party.
