Calls for Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene to be expelled from the House of Representatives have grown in recent days following her comments comparing COVID-19 safety measures to the Holocaust.
Greene, a Republican who represents Georgia's 14th congressional district, invoked the horrors of Nazi Germany and the systematic murder of six million European Jews while criticizing COVID rules, such as mask-wearing, which Speaker Nancy Pelosi has enforced on the floor of the House.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy joined several of his party colleagues in criticizing Greene's remarks and an online petition seeking her expulsion has garnered more than 100,000 signatures.
The House and Senate have the authority to expel a member but the power has rarely been used. Two-thirds of members present for an expulsion vote must approve the measure of it to be successful.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Kept Matt Gaetz Afloat When Sex Scandal Hit. Now She's Sinking Too
After it was revealed that Rep. Matt Gaetz was under federal investigation over allegations of sex trafficking a minor, the Florida Republican found himself adrift from the bulk of his party.
The House Republican conference has largely remained quiet about the investigation into their colleague, and former President Donald Trump has similarly said little about the case against the congressman, despite the pair being one-time allies.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), a GOP lawmaker on the so-called "moderate" wing of the party, went so far as to call for Gaetz's resignation shortly after news of the investigation broke in April.
However, there has been one Republican lawmaker still happy to appear beside the embattled Gaetz: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

(17,183 posts)Not that it matters. 2/3 of just the House won't expel her, either.

(15,823 posts)That actually makes it a bit more doable. I believe the 10 who voted for the commission would vote for this. Thats 228 or so. Just need to find 30 more. Not unattainable depending on how her case is laid out.

I also feel, Margie is destroying the Repubs from the inside. So I say go MG go.

(27,813 posts)I doubt if they'd elect anyone who'd vote differently from her.

(18,636 posts)Expelling her would only cause deeper division and make democrats seem like the heavy here.
If that's what the voters in that district want for representation, shame on them. Most certainly, there's no payoff for their effort because her lack of committee appointments mean no earmarks for them. Even if the voters' only focus in life is owning the libs, they could still do better.

(34,403 posts)If she was just spewing vile and outrageous things like the Holocaust comparison, I'd say have at it, but she's a physical danger to Democrats in the House, especially AOC. I'm worried that either mtg will snap or one of her minions will do something. Call me paranoid, but after January 6 I put nothing past that awful thing or her fellow traitors. So I'd like to see her gone but it will never happen given the current state of the GQP.

(16,110 posts)she's the shiny object that makes them look slightly less horrific than they are because she is so over the top awful.
She and Halfwit Lauren are their cover..."see, we're not THAT crazy!"

(12,660 posts)Every time she says something stupidly offensive or performs her bully swagger, money comes rolling into the GQP from suckers who apparently have nothing more important in their lives but to own the Libs while claiming they're the only True Patriotic Christians Under Siege.

(3,245 posts)but she's the Republican's problem, not ours. The more she talks, the more the Republicans are exposed for who they really are.
She's been stripped of all her committee assignments so she really can't cause much legislative damage.
She's not going to be challenged in her district, unless it's by someone even more Trumpian. Her district is an 85%white, rural, and a big Trump stronghold. The only way she loses her seat is either by a more Trumpian candidate primarying her, or she decides to resign.
I generally just don't give her the time of day.
