NBA Star Wants Changes After a Popcorn Dumping

NBA Star Wants Changes After a Popcorn Dumping
Russell Westbrook says the league need to better protect players

Russell Westbrook is fed up. A fan dumped popcorn on the Washington Wizards star as he was limping off the court Wednesday night after injuring his ankle in Philadelphia, reports ESPN. As video of the incident shows, Westbrook had to be restrained from going after the man in the Wells Fargo Center, and Westbrook didn't hold back when talking to reporters after the game.

"To be completely honest, this s--- is getting out of hand, especially for me," he said. "The amount of disrespect, the amount of fans just doing whatever the f--- they want to do." He called on the league to better protect players, per CBS Philadelphia. "There are certain things that cross the line," he said. "Any other setting ... a guy were to come on the street and pour popcorn on my head, you know what happens."

The fan, who hasn't been identified publicly, was ejected. He's said to have been a season-ticket holder who's now lost those tickets, and he's also been banned from all events at the Wells Fargo Center. "This was classless, unacceptable behavior," says Valerie Camillo, president of business operations for the center.

Popcorn is not a real problem but some nuts could throw other things that could really hurt the player. Throwing things should not be tolerated ever.

I see some popcorn on the floor. Didn't seem like that big a deal. Yeah, the fan should be expelled, it was a stupid move to do to a person. But then Westbrook acts like somebody dropped a bucket of rocks on him. Elementary school behavior from both of them.

Spitting is a whole different ball game.

14. I don't think it's no big deal to go dump a box of popcorn on a stranger

Spitting involves bodily fluids, of course, so yeah that's a different level. But neither is okay. You couldn't expect to do that to a random stranger and not face retaliation. Classless and stupid.

Worst fans in all of sports and have been for decades. One Phillies fan even murdered a fan of an opposing team. Westbrook is 100% correct.

Sounds like a lottery ticket for someone to throw popcorn at him.

I feel no sympathy for those who throw a ball, catch a ball... round, prolate spheroid, big or small, laced or not... even a rubber puck and cash multi million dollar paychecks..
