As the Cult of Eternal Denial refuses to vote for a Commission to get to the truth about January 6th, some still hold out hope that there will be a "Eureka!" moment and the Democrats and Republicans will join together in a bi-partisan way to vote for what is best for America. It's not going to happen anytime soon.
They do not see the need to vote for a Commission to get to the truth because they already know the truth. They just don't want the rest of America to know it. They were complicit on January 6th and they continue to be complicit.
They are pulling the wool over Republican voters' eyes. They want them to believe that it is the Democrats playing "politics" with the issue of attacking our Capitol. It's hard for it not to be a "political" issue when our Capitol is attacked. So, Mitch McConnell may have a point there?
When does the fever break? When the Republican voters in this country send a message to the criminal lackeys in Washington. When the Republicans in this country put their nation over their corrupt Party and do what is best for all of America. Then, the fever might break?

From the GOP view, they are still very much alive, electorally. They lost the Senate, yes... in spectacular fashion, yes... but only lost it by a tiny margin. The House, as well, is a slim loss. So they think they are on the cusp of a come back.
Everything McConnell is doing is operating on that assumption. That's why he flipped so fast to pro-Trump nonsense after his little speech a few days after Jan 6th. The fate of the party's electoral prospects hangs on Trumpers who are still very active and very loud.
He knows if the party pivots away from Trump right now, they will get shellacked in 2022. He knows the winds of the indy's are not great for the party and the Dems are very motivated at the moment.
He also knows the Republicans are a minority party, but thanks to our Constitution, they are a ruling party... to a point. If a 3rd party comes into the mix to dilute things, they are done.
The party has to let Trump decay at his own rate and keep the MAGA crowd as its the only voting population that will float them in any scenario. They will continue on this course until they are beaten badly at the polls, they have no other course to take.

But, you are probably right. There will be no compromise with Republicans until they get defeated at the polls, perhaps vanquished at the polls?

Thats why we should have called witnesses after Impeachment 2. Traitors would be locked up today instead of spreading lies 24/7.
