Austin gun shop owner says new permitless carry law will allow guns into bars that are operating as

The Firearm Carry Act allowing many Texans to carry a handgun without a permit is waiting for the governor's signature.

The bill was contentious enough but, now, Central Texas Gunworks owner Michael Cargill is concerned a change during the pandemic could lead to unintended consequences for bars that may still operate as restaurants.

"So that means the majority of bars that are on Sixth Street, starting Sept. 1, unlicensed people will be able to carry in there," he said.

Cargill is referring to the bars that have transformed into restaurants after COVID-19 hit. They did it to stay in business.

Perhaps we should have an appointed sheriff disarm people when they are in town and hold their guns for them until they leave.

Toss in large groups of people with simmering resentments or feel like they have something to prove, and it's a perfect recipe for population reduction.

Painful, but true.

Cowboy shootouts, duels in the street, and everyone walking around armed at all times, was made popular by dime store comics and movies from the 1920's through well, now. The reality is that while law enforcement was not as big a thing, and the need for protection against indigenous people who were pissed off that their lands were being stolen, along with the need to hunt for food (no ubiquitous grocery stores) meant that people might carry firearms more often, most towns had pretty strict laws about when and where they could be carried. Most bigger cities outlawed the possession of firearms outright.

And the majority of people in line were Black and brown.

Right wingers might not like this unintended consequence.

Even the permits their residents obtain for out of state carry. Zap...no good here.

Seriously, how can we trust the integrity of their permits for out of state carry?

We can’t.

Because employees fear for their lives.

Eg. “He looked at me the wrong way and I shot him in self defense”. (Stand your ground laws] You know this defense will be wildly used for every shooting incident.

No Texas or Florida for me ever again until these laws are repealed!
