the Jan. 6 Commission that he has asked republican senators to vote against it as a "personal favor" to him.
It's quite despicable that the republican Senate leader is asking for a favor to him over a duty to the nation to get to the bottom of who actually caused the insurrection. It sure seems like he knows it was an inside job.
I'm beginning to wonder if DiFi is not the only senator displaying signs of questionable judgment. How can the Minority Leader think there won't be long term damage to him and his party by asking for a favor to him to not vote for a commission instead of a duty to the country to vote a commission in. This IMO is far beyond his usual partisan opposition to the Dem agenda. This is opposition to the nation.

(21,482 posts)I think it's more than the former guy and the party that he is protecting. He has his orders to prevent an investigation. What are the consequences to him if he fails to prevent the commission from being approved? That is what he is afraid of. I'm betting that he has been threatened if he fails, so it is himself that he is protecting.

(32,086 posts)The wife of Supreme Court Justice and sexual predator, Clarence Thomas, who pad to bring in multiple busloads of these seditious fuckers to the riot. The head of that MAGA caravan was just charged with assaulting Capitol police officers. Just the very tip of the ice berg of those Moscow Mitch is trying to protect. I wouldn't be surprised if he's covering for himself, too.

(17,985 posts)Mitch is in trouble if they renew that investigation.
I noticed on Wednesday Mitch was wondering around the floor. Every time a Republican came down to vote Mitch would head for them, get right in their face as they voted. It was intimidation. He knows he has lost control

(30,813 posts)He never fell under the Trump spell, even as he placated him at every turn.
Everything he does is in his own self-interest. A Jan. 6 commission would implicate many GOP lawmakers and keep the horrors of the insurrection in the news for many months, right up to the midterm election season. If that happens, McConnell could lose his chance to regain a Senate majority, which is what he lives for.

(3,433 posts)This makes me think that this is what they are trying to squelch. It is going to come out eventually. They have no control over what comes out with the commission, and it would be hard to spin. They can spin a congressional investigation as a partisan event. Either way it is a no win situation as long as the information comes out.

(53,784 posts)Madame Speaker is smart enough to forma House Select Committee which will include some respected republicans. Liz Cheney maybe, or some out of office who can see the damage the current crop of repug office holders are doing to their party. That way it can be labelled a partisan committee.
likely deeply involved. I dont trust Liz C. and any committee should be people no longer in office.

(11,738 posts)Feinstein, and I am not a fan, has at least tried to serve honorably during her tenure in the Senate and in her public life. McConnell cannot claim that in any aspect of his wretched life. He doesn't care about the state of the Union. He cares about the power that he wields now at this moment. He likely knows his days are numbered so he doesn't care about what happens once he is gone.

(3,514 posts)Comparing Dianne Feinsteins questionable judgement to Mitch McConnells decision process does not hold up very well at all.
He knows exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it. Any cognitive dissonance between his actions and his statements is entirely intentional and calculated.

(28,079 posts)Now the Democrats can form a committee to investigate, they don't have to make it 50/50 representation, and they don't have to give the Cons subpoena power.
And all the time they can remind the public the Republicans didn't want it investigated.

Turtle exhibits the indicators of cognitive impairment, irrationality, senility. He's the poster boy for a TERM LIMITS. I'd include at least 10 other mugs on that poster--including Iowa's Grassley.

Calling it a personal favor is a power message. "Do this for me and I will see that you get some favors in return. Refuse and I will see that you never get any favors."

(5,129 posts)And, you can also understand that this will NEVER happen. The powers that be would never allow anything to limit their people or the ability to keep them in power. I feel that strong, across the board term limits would go a loooooong way towards repairing some of the issues in our government. Which is why I expect nothing to ever come of it.

(3,514 posts)There is nothing about Mitch McConnells actions that can be explained or excused through cognitive decline. He is knowingly and understandingly (if that even is a word) taking action in his own personal best interest at the cost of others.
I dont believe that there is any impairment present in him (other than being an evil, selfish asshole. But that doesnt seem to impair a whole hell of a lot of people today)
And just to clarify - I get the point you were trying to make. I dont think for one moment that you were comparing Feinstein to McConnell.

(2,065 posts)And at each subsequent stage, things only get more desperate because Trump is a total MONSTER. McConnel and his ilk thought they could "ride the tiger" to get what they wanted, but boy, were they wrong. It's like Ted Lieu said on Lawrence O'Donnel last night - the Republican senators had a chance to just impeach Donald Trump and be done with him forever - but they didn't have the courage, the resolve, the political will, or whatever you want to call it - and now their karma is coming around to bite them in the butt.
