Anyone else think that Sheldon Whitehouse would make a great majority leader - "some day?"
Just asking, no particular reason.

(18,486 posts)We have no say in who the Majority Leader is. That role is elected by the other senators.

(47,463 posts)Being Senate majority leader takes certain skills and someone can be an outstanding senator, but not be good at being majority leader.
I agree about Sherrod Brown, he is amazing.

(14,903 posts)got upset?
I think it was last year? Or mid-late 2019.
He's always been rather low key. I was surprised.
Low key doesn't mean ineffective. As my Senator I've always wanted him to be vocally sharper more often.

(14,903 posts)when I said vocally sharp, I think I mean it in terms of tone (presentation), sometimes in positions (more progressive, though I think he's mostly liberal).
If there was a third point it's lost in my current extra tiredness for now.
I'd be very happy to have a more progressive NY Senator, but there's a lot more purple in parts of central, northern, western NYS. (I'm a born & bred nyc'r 😁 )
And he very much knows the ropes which also count for a lot especially these days!
It maybe his hope for a kind of congeniality, or at least courtesy even in the midst of strong disagreement that he experienced in the Senate for a good portion of his tenure there - as many of his Republican colleagues now show their rabid colors, along with the kind of cruelty in their voting that has sometimes to often been there.
Oh, and I like Sheldon W

(44 posts)We need a Leader who is brave, bold, and a fighter. A Leader who is passionate enough to care for our rights and our democracy. We are practically at war with respect to our voting rights, and our democracy versus republican corruption, lies, and autocracy. We, Democrats, are at a crossroads in this day and age. We cannot fight with a stick while our opponents are holding guns.
Don't you think our Congressional Leaders and Reps should start kicking a## as opposed to BS??

(44 posts)She is the epitome of a Leader. Unequivocally, she's a total Bad Ass.
She has control of her Caucus, and she doesn't take bullshit from anyone.
If the Senate fails to pass Jan 6 BipartisanCommission, I believe she will invoke and create a Select Committee with her caucus to Investigate the January Resurrection. It takes a Lady and a fighter and you will see her totally shine as a Leader of the House!!
The Senate is another story!

(2,541 posts)Amy Klobuchar would be good...now.
Schumer is not getting it done. I keep seeing tweets from him about how today would be a good day for President Biden to cancel student debt...but thats it. Nothing on anyway to deal with the Manchin issue which has effectively made Mitch the defacto leader since he is still obstructing the Dems while Manchin is in his pocket & still calling the shots.

Fwiw, govtrack.us shows him middle of the pack for leadership and ideology, close to where Schumer and Pelosi also are shown. But the leadership skills a majority leader should have go well beyond what's represented by their legislative-success metrics.
