People who struggle to make ends meet will never be part of the economy.
This is NOT "social spending." It's an economic investment.
And quite frankly, the plan doesn't come close to doing what needs to be done. A HUGE increase in the minimum wage is needed. Student loan forgiveness is needed. And universal health care for all (not health insurance--health care) is an imperative.
And again, this is not "social spending." Working people need to have money in their pockets in order for the economy to be strong.

(6,917 posts)Such a broad statement mirrors that of Republicans. Certainly there are elements of the media that are propaganda, right-wing outlets.
There are no MSM, left-wing outlets like the right-wing Fox News, and other cable and AM radio wannabes.
A vibrant, transparent media is the goal. Equating the deliberate political failures of the right with the essential business leanings of ALL commercial media stations is an unfair comparison.
There are producers/owners who are weasels, but the MSM and media employ millions of union workers who oppose political propaganda.
If NBC or CBS used the Fox News business model, theyd be in court fighting off billion dollar libel lawsuits, too.
If anything, Fox News leans hard-right but CNN lightens its left-leaning stories to both sides-ism.

(21,349 posts)I never used the word propaganda did I? You and I differ on one key word, narrative. I watch CNN and MSNBC repeat right wing narratives all of the time and they do so without lying.
I guess what I am saying is that I don't feel that CNN and MSNBC lean left.
I get my real news from Sirius radio or from sites like DU. Do you feel that Thom Hartmann and Zerlina Maxwell and Stephanie Miller put out left wing propaganda? I don't. I feel they tell the truth.
Turn on CNN and MSNBC right now and tell me how many cable news anchors are saying that president Biden's infrastructure plan is too costly and how many are saying it doesn't cost enough? IMO CNN and MSNBC are pushing a right wing narrative when they complain about the cost of the infrastructure plan. IMO the infrastructure plan needs to cost more if we wanted to be truthful.

it always bugged me that the aca debate rarely touched on the importance of investing in our human capital.
so many people end up disabled by treatable conditions/injuries, letting a lifetime investment in a fellow citizen sit on the sidelines. and so many just slowly rot.

(19,201 posts)They always seem to word stories that are pro-Democratic with provocative headlines that disparage Democrats.
That's why I no longer consider MSN a "fair and balanced" source for news.

(6,917 posts)If fair and balanced is a standard, then weve adopted a news slogan from Fox News as a guiding principle.
A news reporters job is to root out the truth, not report both sides and let people decide like picking a can of soup in the supermarket.
This is the damage to our thought process from relentless right-wing commercial and political propaganda.

(19,201 posts)Is nothing more than a misleading slogan. They've neither been fair or balanced in their delivery of stories pertaining to Democrats. They're pure reich-wing propaganda, save a few news stories by Wallace on off hours, when the rabid base is seldom watching.
FOX does not have exclusive rights to the words "fair", or "balanced", and I'll use them as I see fit. They're the official propaganda outlet for republican lies. Always have been, always will be.

(21,349 posts)How many CNN and MSNBC anchors have discussed whether president Biden's infrastructure bill should be larger? IMO it isn't big enough and one reason is because the MSM pushes the right wing narrative that it is too large. A simple example to explain my point.
I agree with your perception of how issue are worded and how they are presented. Even the cryons that scroll across the screen push a narrative.

(82,849 posts)Isn't that better than "funneling the Treasury into the overstuffed pockets of the wealthy and impoverishing the country even further"? But then, that notion never quite makes into print or on the air. For some reason.
