Fiddlehead's Cafe had previously posted a sign that read Get your free COVID-19 vaccine card here! The sign has since been removed.
Customers at one Northern California cafe were taken aback Monday morning after they got a glimpse of the new store policy that greeted them at the door.
$5 FEE ADDED TO ORDERS PLACED WHILE WEARING A FACE MASK, read the poster on the glass window at Fiddleheads Cafe in Mendocino. A second sign with the same memo was located by the register.
Just below the large print were two additional notes on the poster that warned guests if they were "caught bragging" about their vaccines an additional $5 fee would be added to their bill. The sign claims the fees will be donated to local charities assisting domestic abuse victims. (Previously, Fiddleheads Cafe had a second sign on its storefront thats circulated on social media and read Get your free COVID-19 vaccine card here! The sign has since been removed.)
Owner Chris Castleman, who isn't new to sharing his political views, says that some customers have paid the $5 fee, while others have been outraged. Castleman blamed this outrage not on his mask fee but on the charitable component.

As of Thursday afternoon, Fiddlehead Cafes business page has temporarily been disabled on Yelp to prevent reviews from being made following the signs placed on Monday. But it hasnt prevented neighboring restaurant Mendocino Cafe from receiving unwanted attention, according to business owner Meredith Smith.

(15,808 posts)Probably legal. Companies giving free items for shot. So I guess adding cost to mask wearers could be seen as legally allowable. Our country has them all.

The agents were told to write their names and birth dates on sticky notes and watched as employees cut the cards, added phony vaccination dates and laminated them, the Associated Press reported.
"On the back where they put the two dates when you were vaccinated, they used two different color pens to make it look like it was two different times," supervising agent Luke Blehm told the AP. "So they went to some effort to make it look authentic."
The owner, Todd Anderson, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with identity theft, forging government documents, falsifying medical records and having a loaded unregistered handgun, San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar said in a statement this week.
Pharmacy Employee Arrested With Fake Vaccination Cards

May 18, 2021 -- A Long Island man who worked at a CVS was arrested last week after police said they found 62 fake COVID-19 vaccination cards inside his vehicle.
Police conducting a drug trafficking investigation on May 11 saw a man sitting in a car with the engine running, WABC reported. The driver got out of his car when officers approached and they noticed brass knuckles inside the vehicle.
A search of the car turned up 62 vaccination cards, eight of them filled out with the name left blank and the rest not filled out. Some cards were dated for last week and other 30 days ahead, police told WABC.
Zachary Honig, 21, was charged with eight counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, and petit larceny, WABC reported.
It was unclear where the cards came from, police said.
"His intent was to share them with family members and friends (so) that they can go into venues and possibly even use them at school when they go back in September," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.
"You can't have scams like this occurring. The idea of getting us all back to normal is that when you walk into a place and they're requiring that card, you want to make sure that card is factual."
CVS said its cooperating with the police investigation and has fired the suspect.

(4,448 posts)I didn't downplay anything.
So they have enforced it. That's awesome. That's all ya had to say. Thanks for the links. (It's interesting that both cases also involved illegal handguns)
No need to be paranoid and make comparisons to RW'ers.
FWIW. I'm still waiting for someone to ask me for my card. So far it's just lonely in my stack of papers.

(102,283 posts)Shame on you! You need to educate yourself, rather than lash out at those who merely show you the proof that you and your assumptions are wrong. And no, justifying breaking the law to counterfeit vaccine documents is anything BUT a democratic, progressive philosophy. It is, however, exactly what those on the RW are promoting.

I was mistaken about the number of people prosecuted. You let me know that 2 people have been arrested,
Thank you for correcting my error. I appreciate it. (I do)
Also stop projecting. No one has justified anything. Nor lashing out.
Are you ok? This is just a message board you know. It's ok.

(102,283 posts)a big deal, even though I have amply documented that it is a felony now being prosecuted fully. It puts countless others at risk. I and many other HCWs on this site put our own lives on the line to prevent fatal outcomes and to counter such BS. So, keep it up. I WiLL rebut every inaccurate post you make and expose you for doing it.
Whether or not you care about others and the risks such behavior presents, most on this site DO.

Take a breath. Breathe. Breathe. Relax. This is not worth having a heart attack or stroke over. Just text on a screen.
Bottom line. I said that they aren't prosecuting that crime. You proved me wrong by pointing out two instances where it has happened (along with gun charges).
You corrected me. This is the second time I have acknowledged a mistake.
What else could you possibly want?
