Something is very wrong with a political system where the party responsible

for attempting a coup can block an investigation into said attempted coup. What makes it worse is that they still refuse to accept the election results. And fuck all of M$M pushing the line that this is about power. This is about overthrowing the democratic political system for authoritarian rule.
This is effin'madness. Use the Constitution and banish these mother effers. Sedition is sedition.

He knows damned full well some of them are guilty as sin and the rest are covering for them because they want those votes.

He just won't abandon slavery's best friend, the filibuster.

I still say offer him a suspension for two years, during which time the rules can be examined so that one man won't hold the power McConnell has. Force a vote to filibuster and have the proponents get up and start talking. A filibuster should be last ditch and rare, not ordinary business as usual to hamstring the majority party.

When is enough enough? Why do people need to try to stay in the Senate forever? He narrowly won his 2018 election, and unless something changes drastically in W. Virginia politics, he is likely to lose in 2024. He could actually better his odds by voting to kill the filibuster and get Biden’s jobs and infrastructure plans into law, which would benefit West Virginians harmed by the decline of coal. I really do not understand his reluctance.

Fri May 28, 2021, 02:15 PM
May 2021

Historically the opposition takes control in midterms when a president wins Congress.

This combined with:
- new census gerrymandering
- states making laws to handicap Democratic voters
- states setting up government systems that could overturn vote results they don't like
- a majority of states are Republican run
- and RW media will enrage Republican voters to get out and vote while Democratic voters will feel relatively content and stay home.

All this makes it likely that seditionists will take control of Congress and will attempt to rig the systems even more so that they can never be removed.
It's not going to be pretty.

With the system. Framing it like that makes it sound like it’s the system is doing this not the people. There is no government, process, procedure, system, LAW in the world that will work when the people in charge don’t have the will to use the capabilities available. The GOP is using everything they can as the minority to block, obstruct, delay, ignore any accountability for 1/6 or the Pandemic. The Founders knew patriots and little else. They could not conceive of the modern MAGAt mind, and especially not the Insurrectionist Party.

Money has corrupted politics. It was sewn into the cloth of the Constitution. Men of property.

Elections are the strongest and yet the weakest point of democracy. Strongest because there is the opportunity for everyone to participate. Weakest because fair elections are decided at the margins, meaning those weak of mind, ignorant of politics, stupid, and especially gullible are the last to weigh in and the most heavily weighted in the outcome.

We went downhill after World War II, after Watergate, when money took over everything. I put this at about 1968. Money took over television, politics, sports. Compare the World Series 1968 with the 1970s. We now have the dumbest electorate relative to the subject of Civics, and all they care about is money, consumerism, and religion. It's as if they are tranquilized.

The 54 to 35 vote was 61% to 39% when you round the numbers.

It's not just wrong, but bizarre when a nation that tends to view itself as the greatest
democracy in the world is ruled by a 39 percent voting block over a 61% voting block.

That's not democracy by any stretch. If our legislative bodies don't function democratically, what good is so-called "democratic" representation? We don't have a democracy when it comes to representation. Neither the House or the Senate currently reflect the electoral vote or the policy wishes of the people.

There have also been times when the Presidency does not reflect the vote of the people as we well and painfully know.

We don't have a great, let alone the world's greatest democracy.

Second the power of the Television to numb and dumb down the electorate and has been vastly underestimated.

Finally, the basic elimination of civics being taught in school, means kids learn from their parents and really no longer think for themselves even though the ability to get correct information at their fingertips has vastly increased though tech.
