He imagines voting against a 1 / 6 commission will make the treason of the traitors trying to stop transfer of power / democracy to simply go away.
His brain is broke.

(9,956 posts)... he's a 79-year-old man who has clearly peaked, career-wise. What is he going to plan for his golden years? Will he spend time with his loving wife and cute grandchildren? (if he has any) Will he enjoy gardening? Will he travel? How will he spend his considerable wealth? He must have SO MANY retirement plans. How can he possibly want to serve any more SIX YEAR terms? What is WRONG WITH HIM?

(11,738 posts)Money gets you power, which is why many wealthy people want to keep theirs and get more. At the end of the day however, how many homes or yachts, or private jets, etc... do you need or want. Wealthy people have these things but having 6 is not much better than having 5. What tends to motivate people with that level of wealth is the power that can be purchased with their money and status.
That is what I think really motivates McConnell. He wants to be Majority Leader again, badly. He wants the power to decide in which direction the country goes. The only time we see McConnell appearing like he is showing genuine happiness is when he is talking about "killing legislation" or "stopping Obama" or something to that effect. We get that sinister chuckle. He gets off on the power to dictate what happens in the Senate. I don't think he will quit until he can no longer do it, or if he sees the party's position start to crumble.

(9,956 posts)... he's a power junkie. Sad man... wish he could live his addiction without harming the country.

(9,994 posts)My district is so gerrymandered now (even before Texas Republicans get their hands on new redistricting) that Republicans could run an armadillo and it would win. And Texas got two new House seats. You can bet that redistricting will ensure that Republicans will win both.

(3,392 posts)etc. it is always about power grab, about corruption.
And that is the only thing republicans want, power and money, they don't care about government, if they did and believed what they preach, government is the problem and too much government, they would do their part and quit government.
It is important to note that when they say "government is the problem" they are not really talking about government, they are talking about regulations, they want a government that doesn't regulate that allows them to do whatever they want.

(11,738 posts)Diane Feinstein is likely developing dementia. She has lost a bunch of steps in the last couple of years. You can see it comparing her speech now and just 5 years ago.
McConnell is not forgetful, he is not disoriented. He doesn't have poverty of content in his speech. He simply says what he thinks is necessary to make things that are not politically beneficial to him, try to go away. That has nothing to do with Dementia, Mental Illness, or any other condition that all humans are susceptible to. He is plain and simply an evil person. His goal is to retain power at all costs and he does not care about the long term anymore, in so much as if he wins in the short term, the GOP can solidify its hold on power and then who cares what burning husk of a country is left.
What McConnell "imagines" is not that this situation will go away. What he predicts will happen is that not having a commission will keep Trump and the GOP's complicity in the Insurrection out of the headlines for 2022 so that they can try to take back the Senate. He knows that the insurrectionists favor the GOP so he doesn't care whether they go again or not. He just wants the bad stuff to stay out of the media until the election is over.

(11,738 posts)Simply saying that he has dementia, will cause people to underestimate him. McConnell is a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them.

(50,273 posts)and vote against the commission. What does Trump have on McConnell that he's using to blackmail him with? I suspect there might have been business transactions by the wife's family firm in exchange for government action. Did Trump rubber stamp something in exchange for whatever favor he decided to call in?

He can't stroke out soon enough.
