I’m talking about my grandpa on my mother’s side.

When we were growing up 12, 13 yrs old, my best friend and I figured out how to get a quarter each from grandpa. I’m talking about the late 50’s.

We would visit grandma and grandpa, and proclaim “we’re going to the beach!” Grandpa immediately took out two quarters from his jacket and always said the same thing: “Don’t go to the beach! You will turn brown, go buy an ice cream instead!”
