https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/28/politics/january-6-commission-vote-senate/index.htmlThe vote was 54 to 35, showing the bill had a bipartisan majority of support with six Republicans voting with Democrats. However, the bill needed 60 votes to advance. The six GOP senators who backed the bill were: Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Rob Portman of Ohio, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Ben Sasse of Nebraska. Nine Republican senators and two Democrats didn't vote.

(9,998 posts)They needed 60 votes. If they would have had those 60, Schumer would have delayed the vote.
It doesn't matter if they got 2 Votes or 59 Votes. They needed 60, and 56 would have made no difference.

(11,023 posts)She probably found out that Murray wasn't going to make the vote, which doomed it, so decided to skip out and head back for the holiday. Which wouldn't have been TOO bad, except that she made a scene during her last important vote, and has generally been awful when it comes to dealing with press and controversy. Now she just looks even shittier. I'm generally a fan and I'm beyond pissed about it.
She can't hack the spotlight.

(23,994 posts)...it wouldnt have changed the outcome, IMO.
She does seem rather flighty/flakey. Im not from Arizona, but she is a disappointment nonetheless.

(17,180 posts)Just show up and say "yes" or "no" when her turn comes. For $174,000 a year, I don't think that's too much to ask.

(11,023 posts)And the fact that she didn't see how poor form it is, especially after vocally saying she was a Yes vote, just makes me shake my head. It's not just bad politics. It's being bad at her job.
I do think there are things she does well. Performative votes on camera, not so much. You can slide under the radar when your vote doesn't matter. No one cared that she was making meaningless votes as a Representative. As a Senator though, she has national media laser focused on her, she can't just slide under the radar.
And the fact that she doesn't recognize this is what bugs me the most.

(11,023 posts)There were two Republicans who voted to impeach that no-showed, and at least one expressed support for the commission.
I wonder if the drama last night was because McConnell was securing the last couple votes. Once that happened, people took off.

(7,282 posts)Presumably he has an ace up his sleeve to go with a partisan commission.
But it seems like a commission could be initiated outside of Congress. Clearly MOST of the Republicans in the Senate are at the minimum sympathizers.
