.
After all, the GOP says it was Antifa that stormed the Capitol, so why are Republicans protecting them?

(9,998 posts)They know that these Morons don't pay attention to what actually occurs....or doesn't occur.....in Congress, and probably are not even following this story.
They'll be back to shouting ANTIFA soon enough, as if this vote never happened. It's how they roll.

(11,738 posts)We see through their bullshit, about Antifa AND about why they don't want a commission.
Republicans follow blindly
The rest of the population is thinking about what sporting event or new reality show is going to be on next, or what they are going to barbeque this weekend.
We need everyone engaged with this.

(11,738 posts)They, unfortunately see more power in being recalcitrant than getting things done for the American People. Someone just put up a thread based on quotes from Jon Tester and Lisa Murkowski. What Murkowski said stuck with me... "It this really what this is all about? Just one election cycle after another? "
Yes, that is what it seems it is all about for most if not all Republicans and a couple of Democratic Senators.
And I understand that those Senators are in difficult election circumstances, but there has to be something worth more than realpolitik. Senate is not a gerrymandered thing, if you are working for your state and for the country, voters will respond when their lives are improved.

(15,286 posts)I don't even think most (r)epuglicon senators or reps care about getting votes in their state.
They understand they can buy the votes or coerce the voting apparatus - if they have the money and leverage with the ruling machinery.
I doubt McConnell actually got the votes through the ballot box in a fair count. Same for many others. These are shades of dictatorial techniques used around the world.
Look to some people, US and foreign, who gain the most to see a real democracy crumble and be replaced with a rule of some self-appointed aristocracy.

(24,412 posts)But most of us non-brain dead folks know the real reason (and Republicans sure as hell know too but they need to keep the big lie going for the MAGAT folks).
Justice matters.

(6,929 posts)Depends on how they're set up?
The rules package also includes revisions aimed at strengthening oversight tools for investigative committees. The rules have now been amended to explicitly state that House subpoenas apply to any person or entity, whether governmental, public, or private, within the United States, including, but not limited to, the President, and the Vice President, whether current or former, in a personal or official capacity.

(6,929 posts)I think a House Select Committee on 1/6 should ask never-drumpfers and Liz Cheney to join in, so that would cut-out any M$M's characterization of being a partisan inquiry, and it would give Cheney (and/or others who voted for it in the House) an opportunity to try to get their party back from the big-lie conspiracies.
And yes, set it up with full subpeona powers (and enforce them).

Now they'll have to face the DOJ, the FBI, and the courts and no one will ask them if they object to any of it.
Oh, they'll screech "partisan witch hunt," but most people will know they had an absolutely golden chance to avoid it but they were idiots.

Fine! Let the Justice Department complete the investigation. It will avoid a circus-like stage for all the Repukes to pander to their (dwindling, I hope) base.
