....the hangar making sure he thanks each soldier, chatting with them and joking, getting their pictures taken with Jill and him in small groups of eight or ten. It's been going on about 30 minutes now, he's not in a hurry to rush out.

I don't get too slobbery often but this just has me choked up, seeing all the men and women (all very young!) thrilled to be with THE President. Great kickoff for the Memorial Day weekend.

Can you imagine the memory of meeting the President later in life? I remember my mom taking me down to the depot to watch some guy speak from the back of a train. Some old retired general who later had a farm in Pennsylvania.

9. I remember back in the 1950s when Nelson Rockefeller was running for Governor he was....

....in a parade down Broadway in Brooklyn. My father took us to see the parade (we didn't know Rockefeller would be in it), when he drove by waving from a convertible (we'll never see that again) we were thrilled.

That was 60+ years ago, I still remember it as though it was today, even though in recent years I've met our CT Governors and Senators a number of times.
