Have Republicans fucked us beyond repair?

Last edited Fri May 28, 2021, 04:22 PM - Edit history (1)

Each of us must make our own decisions on that.

But to me, I believe it will take decades to fix, or at least patch up some of the damage they've done. And that's assuming that they don't rule indefinitely, destroy every "THEM" on the planet with some "final solution," and/or destroy our environment to where Earth is no longer inhabitable by our species.

Anyone who doesn't see the danger the Republican Party presents to humanity is either extremely ignorant, can't grasp reality, or hasn't been paying attention.

It's not just Reagan. It's the entire Republican Party that is threatening whatever it is we used to call normal. They are threatening civilization itself.

Hell, I could go on for an hour with this rant, but I'll stop here. America and this entire world is in danger because of a minority of people who have gone totally mad. So it really comes down to a few choices. (1.) We let them destroy humanity. (2.) We stop them any way we can. (3.) We just keep going along hoping for the best and wait to see how things turn out.

It took FDR/HST 5 terms (1932-52) to get done what they did to correct 70 years of Repub domination of US politics (1860-1930).

That can't happen any more, I guess we'll see how much Biden/Harris can get done. Hopefully they get at minimum 3 full terms, with Congressional support (that means losing in 2022 is not an option) to continue the good work they are setting in motion now.

I do believe the young people are "woke" to their tyranny and will vote appropriately. Older Democrats need to wake up and let the youth lead. They understand that bipartisanship is dead.

The election laws in a majority of states have been "adjusted" to make sure that no Democrat can win.

And in blue states, Republicans control many districts which can make a difference in any national election.

They aren't playing by any rules, but we are. Someone really needs to explain to me exactly how stupid we are to fight a portion of humanity dedicated to fascism with our policies, and our promises for better lives for everyone.

Time we woke the fuck up. People don't vote on "issues." They vote with their emotions. Republicans know how to push voter's buttons. We don't.

I think you are right, the damage that has been done is going to take possibly a decade to repair. JMHO a lot will be determined in the next 2 election cycles...so we have a big part to play.

In The meantime, I try and keep in the forefront just how important it is to stay involved, volunteer and donate, but not let the “bogeyman” scare me. If we look at recent past events, so much of what was predicted to happen...didn’t happen.

Focus and act..not react

As others have pointed out here and elsewhere, Democrats have seemed helpless to stop republiqons when Rs have control. When Democrats have control, even with an indisputable mandate, republicons still block or neuter pretty much everything. And they have help. Right now we're seeing it with Biden's agenda being brought to a standstill by one outspoken senator and one or two others. Recall that Moscow Mitch refused to cede control to Shumer unless he agreed to continue the filibuster as-is. Shumer wouldn't agree so Manchin stepped in and assured MM's continued obstruction.

The same thing happened to Obama. We knew republiqons would agree to nothing, but they had considerable help from Joe Lieberman, and a few others who put up one obstacle after another, leaving us with less than we should have gotten.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, everyone is free to draw their own conclusions.

BTW, Obamacare would have been overturned had MF45 not pissed John McCain off so much that he blocked the repeal to spite MF45. Something else republicons apparently couldn't be stopped from doing.

Obviously, of course corporate media and big money donors are a big part of the problem. So are some of the politicians.

will change the very nature of reality if they can to steal the upcoming election.

And, in the meantime, we are doing ... ???

As much as I wish I didn't have to be crude, we must do everything possible to stop these motherfuckers from stealing America.

Why does it look like the minority party is still in charge? Why are we letting the Repugs push us around?

This helplessness will turn into hopelessness - if we don't act fast an put the Repug Party in their place.

a dedicated minority can overcome a clueless majority.

Most human beings aren't "dedicated" Republicans or Democrats. They're just people who are doing their best to survive, thrive and live a decent life. Unfortunately there have always been far too many people on this planet who want to control/own the vast majority of people on this planet.

So, you believe if we stay strong and on the offense we can prevail?

Actually, I think Dems are majority, though, right? Just all the barriers to voting, etc. ...

Can someone help me figure out what more I can do at this point in the election cycle beyond donating (Stacy Abrams' fairfight.org and others), liking and re-tweeting??!!

I'm fortunate to live in a dark blue state: blue gov, blue state leg, 2 Dem women senators and a Dem woman Rep!!! Lucky me, right?

I sent postcards last cycle and have ALWAYS participated, including marching. But much of this activity is closer to the election or when specific needs arise.

Wondering what else I can be doing RIGHT NOW!! This is an emergency all-hands-on deck moment for sure!!

I've been waiting for years for the Democratic Party to take off the gloves and crush the fascist pricks we're up against. And I'm still waiting.

Suggestions???

there is certainly something afoot with all the Republican controlled state governments doing everything they can to shove shit in the face of any sane person. It's obvious that they want no part of a federal government, but they seem to be working together towards some outcome. All those elected officials at the Jan 6th event, all those involved in planning. Too much coordination, with everything they do.

They will almost certainly ensure more executive power as presidents simply bypass more and more do nothing congress.

Americans demand solutions and GOP in congress won't respond. The answer for the last 40 years has been a stronger and stronger executive branch. That's not the best for democracy, but it's a direct result of congressional GOPer.
