Testimony obtained by a special prosecutor isn’t normally done in public. I believe we need both. Urgently.

4. Appoint a Special Councel

The attorney general could appoint a special counsel to investigate the insurrection and sedition, given that President Joe Biden was a party in the election.

The special counsel could deputize Justice Department lawyers from the public integrity division with subpoena powers to look at the digital records surrounding the attack.

He or she would then convene a bipartisan citizens commission -- led by respected officials like Leon Panetta and Robert Gates, Jeh Johnson and Fran Townsend -- to hold public hearings, resulting in an authoritative official report and recommendations. This would in effect reverse engineer the bipartisan commission that Republicans rejected.

These hardball alternatives would require Democrats to push back strongly, but they are necessary now that the GOP has killed the commission. Attempts to diminish democracy's norms demand tough action.

It's rather shocking, really, to think that only 6 GOP Senators want an investigation into the Jan 6 attack on our Capitol.

One wonders how the GOP would be acting if the attack were successful. That is, if somehow it had resulted in T**** retaking office. Not in a bipartisan way, I suspect.

Don't pussyfoot around. Bipartisanship didn't work. Don't give them any breathing room.
Hit back immediately and put the Repugs on the defensive.

The Dems need to go it alone now.

Or the AG needs to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate.

Whichever path is taken - it can't be put on hold - it needs to move forward immediately.

The Dems, Schumer & Pelosi should have anticipated the Repugs vote today and had a contingency plan ready to go immediately after the vote for the commission failed.

I just can't understand why the Dems are not more proactive while they watch the Repugs methodically destroying our democracy.

Dems will go it alone, defend the Constitution and quickly assemble an investigative team to ferret out the truth and those accountable for the January 6th assault on our Capitol and Republic.

And I never, ever want to hear the GOP say they support the police. Only 15 Republican Senators agreed to meet with Mrs. Sicknick whose son died after defending their treason weasal asses. They disrespected the woman, her son and every man and woman who wears the uniform. They disgraced the Blue Line.

Never let them forget it!

Never forget, never forgive.

12. Democrats must ignore all Republican kvetching about this

Republicans had every opportunity to get in on the investigation and practically all of them refused. That doesn't mean they won't complain (and loudly at that) about any investigation, the calling of witnesses, the introduction of evidence, and the condemnatory report that will hopefully follow. Democrats should ignore them, and tell the media to do the same, even though we all know the media will lend a sympathetic ear to the poor put-upon dears in the Republican party.

would force the Democrats to find out who is complicit, without the diversionary tactics of Lindsey and the like. They can't yell about bi-partisan bullshit, although they will. They must have plans to go up against, and try to nullify any investigation.
