We better recognize that.
Their vote against the January 6 Commission was the shot.
I watched former Retrumplican Michael Steele say; "it's up to the American people now".
I wanted to grab him, shake him and yell; "No"!
In Arizona. In Georgia. In Texas. In every other state under Retrumplican control, the Retrumplicans are ensuring that it is Not going to be up to the American people.
It's time to stop hoping and praying that our "institutions will hold". Retrumplicans are working overtime to destroy those "institutions".
So what can work?
Remember when corporate America was going to stop donating to politicians that voted against certifying the election results?
Remember when corporate America was going to use their influence and "wokeness" to stop racist voter suppression laws?
If you remember that, then just wait until you see corporate America swing into action when the Supreme Court decimates reproductive rights.
I hate to be cynical, but it's not freedom, or fairness, or love for fellow man, or democracy, or norms and decency that has ever motivated this country. It's MONEY.
It's time to use our economic power against corporations that fund politicians that want to murder us.
It's time to stop ignoring the 1,200 radio stations that want to kill us.
I don't normally like Nazi references, but unlike the German people of the 1930's, we won't be able to say; "we never saw it coming".
To stop fascism and autocracy from seizing control of America, we need to show the monied interest that fascism and autocracy is not profitable.

(38,601 posts)Actually, there were 65 shots before that, in court, trying to stop the vote counting and such. They lost 64 of those battles.
Actually, there was stuff before that.
But yes, they need to be called on the carpet.

(7,809 posts)It has been proven over and over that the trumpanzee rabble can be manipulated into whatever their masters want. The marching orders are broadcast over radio, TV, and local organizations - all of them with sponsors.
It is past time that those masters are stopped.

(32,626 posts)it's in the Republican controlled states that are doing everything they can to force the federal government to intervene. Then, they will have their righteous cause for civil war. Not a damn thing this Democrat, nor the people I elect, can do about it. Should HR 1 pass, I wonder what will change. It's not like the law is a deterrent to Republican law-makers. If the 300+ million of us can't get 100 Senators to do the right thing, I can't see that it's the fault of 50 of them.

Why do we need people like Michael Steele to remind what we should already know?
Getting out the vote used to be our forte. That's how so many good people-focused legislation got done in this county back in the day. We need to get back to that.
We Democrats need to march, protest, fight, and get out the vote! If we need leadership, look at any large city where the black women are already organized and doing it. Maybe the black women need to be in charge, because THEY GET IT!

(3,384 posts)But the BIDEN administration had better get moving on that voting rights act. VOTING needs to be protected or democracy as we know it will be over. I do feel we need to go all nuclear on that.

(6,011 posts)to capture or kill these "rebels", or will they be protected by law, like the Jan. 6th terrorists appear to be?
Will their capture (or killing) be limited to LE and the military with police powers, arrest warrants, etc.?
My logic: When these "rebels" attack the United States of America, and the American people, why should they be afforded the same rights as innocent Americans? I know all about the Fifth Amendment, so let's not twist what I'm saying here.
In the event of a shooting war, at some point, those carrying out this sort of Right Wing rebel attack will have to be held accountable, at a different standard than an ordinary American citizen. Look at how we handled Osama Bin Laden. If it was good enough for that terrorist...
We're going to have a mess on our hands.
