I'm sick to hear of this but totally unsurprised.
Tulsa Race Massacre events cancelled due to unexpected circumstances as DHS warns of racist threats
A televised event marking a century since the Tulsa Race Massacre has been cancelled, reportedly due to a recommendation from the Department of Homeland Security.
Featured guests at the memorial were to include singer-songwriter John Legend and political campaigner Stacey Abrams, and planned on airing on the tragedys 100 year anniversary and was titled Remember and Rise.
The decision to halt the event was shared yesterday via a statement by the organisers..
Due to unexpected circumstances with entertainers and speakers, the Centennial Commission is unable to fulfil our high expectations for Monday afternoons commemoration event and has determined not to move forward with the event at this time. We have hopes to reschedule later in this 100th commemorative year, wrote the The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission.
Aside from concerns about potential acts and speakers, the Department of Homeland Security expressed the possibility of an attack from neo-nazis and white supremacists.
While there had been nothing the Department deemed serious, they said in a note that said the current Homeland threat remains heightened.

(82,849 posts)But I could take a wild guess about those circumstances, and I'm pretty sure I'd be right.
Trying to remember when was the last, first, or anytime in-between something was canceled because of a rumored threat of antifa or BLM or some other rights group's violence?

They missed THIS part of the story:
But that all changed when, explained Centennial Commission Project Manager Phil Armstrong, organizers were notified within the last 24 hours by representatives for Legend and Abrams that there would be unforeseen circumstances that will keep us from moving forward, though specifics were not disclosed.

(33,643 posts)But it def. never explicitly said that some particular threat resulted in it being cancelled.
Article itself was pretty much innuendo from the start.

(12,444 posts)I'm getting REALLY tired of clickbait factories like rawstory, politicus and others telling half truths to generate progressive clicks.
They treat us like we're idiots and I don't like it.

(58,785 posts)even if major terrorist targets like Stacey Abrams "give in"?

(17,180 posts)I agree that bullies have to be stood up to, but these are armed bullies that assface has whipped into a frenzy and emboldened. Short of having National Guardsmen locked and loaded on every corner, I wouldn't know what else to do. And remember, this is Oklahoma we're talking about.

(12,253 posts)One of the organizers has sued to stop the event until reparations are raised to $50M and a whole bunch of other things, including that he be given a speakers slot. He's an attorney who organized the Reparations demands. Bitter disappointment locally.

(26,587 posts)that would be protected from potential terrorists?
I don't see why it would need to happen at the actual location, and in Oklahoma there's pretty much always going to be a terrorist risk.
I really hope they don't let the terrorists win on this. Terrible message to send out to the rest of the country.

(3,163 posts)...only right-wing fascists have free speech rights in Tulsa?
...instead of cancellation why weren't police deployed to protect our 1st Amendment right?
...why wasn't our 1 Amendment being protected by our 2nd Amendment?
...shameful...

(1,528 posts)So surround the event venue with the National Guard with full riot gear and fixed bayonets -- then, dare the Republicans -- ooops, meant to say "the white supremacists and Nazis" -- to start anything.
