PEORIA Yanira "Yani" Lamlech had dreams to complete.
During the pandemic, Sarah said, the couple acted responsible regarding COVID-19. They'd wear masks in public and abide by safety tips.
But as March faded, they'd yet to pursue vaccinations.
"We planned to," Sarah said with a slight frown. "But we never got around to it. If I have one regret through everything, that's it."

(65,111 posts)I was about to post a rough timeline, based on our experience.
My wife & I qualified under 1b because she was 65, and I substitute grades 6-12.
I did recall it was around 10 weeks before it became open to anyone 16 & up.
You have the specific dates.
It's very possible this woman wasn't eligible until the end of April.

She was eligible.
They "just didn't get around to it".
Save the sympathy for those who deserve it.

(65,111 posts)I clearly said it'spossible!
Possible.. I'll presume you know what that means.
As to where I direct my sympathies, mind your own business.

(2,319 posts)I'll respond to your post if I want. You said it was possible. I was noting it was actually not.
And I am certainly allowed to question where you put your sympathies if I want to.

(1,495 posts)I have diabetes, but vaccine appointments were scarce. It took me about 3 weeks of trying and I got my first vaccine dose on March 7.

(153,170 posts)I was just vaccinated this month - I would have liked to get it earlier but it was difficult as a night shift worker to find an appointment at a good time. Not everyone who didn't get the vaccine right away are assholes....sometimes it's LIFE that gets in the way, especially for younger folk.

(4,170 posts)It has sickened me to see the gleeful responses on these threads about unvaxxed people dying of Covid. It really is not a good look.
I was only fully vaccinated as of earlier this month, and I had to drive 150 miles to get that done. Im over 60, but under 65.
Really horrible to see the celebratory death threads here. It makes me wonder.

(153,170 posts)I don't feel like we are safe until we are all safe....I celebrate the vaccination numbers increasing, not people dying.

(30,250 posts)In March I was vaccinated, but only because my church feeds the homeless and they had extra doses of the J&J vaccine. I was lucky, I didn't have the age required to qualify to get the vaccine in my state. Now anyone can get it, but not in March.

(26,594 posts)It's the end of May, and vaccines are available pretty much everywhere. It's also becoming pretty obvious that being young won't protect you from dying.
Condolences to them, but I really wish they had taken this pandemic more seriously.

(9,657 posts)I am 62 and got my first shot as soon as i was eligible which was March
April/may would of been the first chance the woman that died would of had
Her partner should of been eligible earlier

Wish folks really would stop and think about the possibility that there's more to the story, very likely extenuating circumstances, or that the story has been misconstrued.

i wonder what the vax rate was/is with cops
i remember seeing tons of chicago cops on the news last summer without masks, (drove me crazy) hanging together in groups of 4, 6, 10, talking, blocking off jogging paths and parks so people wouldn't be out or gather because the pandemic was so bad. but they were a bunch of tough guys --they didn't need no stinking masks
i say to all the cops who could have gotten vaxxed but decided against it, then continued having interactions with family/friends/the public -- and spreading that shit around

(2,191 posts)Is not the same as "we weren't eligible." As a police officer, Sarah was eligible in February.
I admire her strength to pass on her story so that maybe other young people will see it. That takes a lot of fortitude and grace. And I hope she finds peace.

(14,971 posts)my dental hygienist told me that the 22 year old daughter of one of their dental assistants died of COVID. She was a college athlete. COVID caused blood clots which then caused her to have a massive stroke. It happened before vaccines were available for her age group.

(81,543 posts)They got infected while waiting to be eligible for the vaccine. Both had no prior health issues - one was an avid runner.
Many people don't realize that COVID is a vascular disease, not just a respiratory illness that makes you cough. Brain fog, blood clots, arrhythmias, strokes, kidney damage are proof.

(18,869 posts)until I got an answer from a friend whose son is a super right winger that refuses to get vaccinated.
He is her only son. She loves him. Losing him would be devastating for her.
I realized there are more than 1 issue here. Those unvaccinated people have families that love them. We beed to be respectful of that.

(1,495 posts)He works from home and doesn't go out. He gets grocery delivery. He puts a mask on to take out the garbage and lives with vaccinated family members. I also know someone else who fears the virus, but is also terrified of the vaccine. I saw a survey in which 19% of democrats were vaccine hesitant, so it's not just the republicans.

(25,868 posts)that the one who died is clearly obese? And that obesity is a huge risk factor?
No, that is NOT fat shaming or body shaming. It's simply an observation. Not that an overweight or obese person deserves to die, but it's still a reality.

(50,299 posts)year (treasure hunting addict) and chatted with many dealers I've known through the years buying merchandise. One, an older woman, told me she had a friend on the west coast who had been vaccinated in January and was just released from the ICU yesterday having contracted the Indian variant. This scares the hell out of me. So sorry for the loss of this young woman. People should stop making cracks about her weight. Remember, Bill Maher, who is skinny as a rail and vaccinated, has also recently caught it.

(35,445 posts)Women, aged 18-29, have a .15% chance of dying from COVID-19. Although this story is indeed tragic, it is a rare occurrence.
