Nice thoughts about your pop.

My dad just died on 5/17, two days shy of his birthday. He too served in combat time, but he wasn't in combat. He was stationed in Korea. He didn't have a lot of military stories, but those he had I enjoyed hearing.

Your dad, like mine and millions of Americans, were the Greatest Generation, they literally saved the world from tyranny.
A salute to your dad. and may he RIP.

Dad was a Captain in the Calvery Recon in the Battle of the Bulge. His company got trapped behind the German line and held off the Germans on a major road. Had only two big guns. They held them off for several days until they took small arm fire. They burned their equipment and set off cross country and got back without the loss of one man.
He then went to Korea and fought again.
Almost blind in his old age, I drove him to a few reunions and heard the stories he had never told me. I can’t tell you how many came up to him and thanked him for getting them out alive.
Monday will mean a lot to me again.
