They are not "TRYING".
They are DOING IT.
NPR's "On Point" did a great in depth report on what the Heritage Foundation is really doing.
This isn't hyperbole.
They are replacing our democratic system of government with fascism under our very noses, as we sit like the proverbial frogs in the pot being brought slowly to a boil.
At this rate, debate over policy will become entirely meaningless.
Here is the link to the NPR "On Point" podcast that gives an in depth report on the Heritage Foundation and how they are pushing voter restriction and ELECTION OVERTURNING (yes, that's really in the legislation!) with great effect. Click on the June 4th podcast.

They failed with Trump.
They aren't finished yet.

(29,270 posts)Its stunning. The part about the spoon feeding of the legislation in Georgia. We need our own version of the Heritage Foundation.
They keep getting away with kicking the ball down the field. The referees are too slow on the calls, so we need much stronger D.

(18,486 posts)We've been under siege for years, with the attack escalating sharply with the 2013 Shelby decision. We've been trying to get folks to take the threat seriously, but the majority of people - including most Democrats - seemed not too concerned about it. It just wasn't a big deal to them because they thought it didn't affect them.
Now that it's affecting them, everyone's paying attention. But had they paid attention to the dead canaries in the coal mines, we'd all be in a better position today.

How can you talk about "infrastructure and bipartisanship" when our free society is being destroyed?

(21,400 posts)Democrats need to focus on 1 main issue, getting S1 passed. It will mean eliminating or changing the filibuster.
I am still waiting for our DOJ to move in to Arizona where they are violating federal election laws, state laws also.

(15,649 posts)all along but definitely not anywhere near enough, and for exactly the reason you mentioned. Basically, they couldnt extrapolate or as you put it so clearly, they didnt see how it affected them. One thing I have been blessed with is implicitly understanding that we are all in this together. In the end, its all or might as well be nothing. No absolutely specific messages, but by example I suppose, my parents had much to do with that blessing. They were always tolerant, and welcoming of everyone. Strangely, a few of my siblings dont have the blessing. I attribute that to their falling into evangelism in their struggles with life. There are 9 of us so only 3 lost souls out of 9 isnt too bad.

(18,486 posts)up voter suppression measures such as restrictive Voter ID laws (instead of saying, "You need a picture ID to get on a plane or buy liquor, so what's the big deal?" etc.), the Black vote that was suppressed could have helped prevent the election of the politicians who are now in office and are hellbent on taking away their rights - LGBTQ rights, reproductive rights, and now their voting rights.
Now that it's almost too late, they are seeing that it would have been good for them to join the fight long before now.
It's great that you had the blessing of parents who taught you tolerance and open-mindedness.

You can go online and find organizations in your area to get involved with and/or support.
And if you still can't find anything, organize something yourself!

(21,400 posts)one of the GQP reps who visited Arizona. I posted a thread on a local right wing web site just lambasting Dush for violating his oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I was banned from the site for about 6 months for calling MF45 a Putin puppet.
The Pa. GQP members will face stiff opposition in Pa. from our AG and governor. It won't be a stroll in the park like they did in Arizona.

(9,771 posts)I thought he was overconfident. Rs are on a roll now, and will stop at nothing.
Excuse my ignorance, but I don't know what we can do about it. Ever since I was of age, I've voted against all Rs and all of their ballot measures and other nonsense in every election, I've donated money, I've volunteered for Dem campaigns, I've gone to protests, I've signed petitions, I've talked to friends & relatives. Nothing works against the power of the massive RW propaganda campaign that convinces people the Right is right and Dems are baby-eating lizard people. WTF?!!!
Do I have to buy guns, ammo, and learn to use them?
