A useless brainless carnival barker as president, a loser, who refuses to lose - and his cult living in a bizarro world of lies and hatred - institutions of centuries - voting (well, for some - many things never got fixed), the mail, the news media (who should largely be ashamed of themselves for getting played so effectively).

The general slide toward authoritarian rule, toward bizarre religions, toward anti-science continues to boggle my mind daily.

10. Well, it is part of a global phenomenon. It happened in the 1930s,

when much of the planet was in social and economic turmoil from surging change and when power seekers and extremists on both left and right were inciting anger and violence in many nations. That time ours survived and went on to thrive while others fell to fascist and other RW and socialist takeovers.

I'm reading William Shirer's The Nightmare Years, 1930-1940 right now. His descriptions of extremist populist tactics turning previously peaceful advanced societies into ones becoming dominated by hate-motivated, irrational, violent populist mobs -- mostly RW but sometimes LW and sometimes allying -- are completely recognizable. Those immune to the craziness couldn't believe it then either.

Our extremists are exactly the same kind Hitler and Stalin, and hundreds of other dangerous charismatic leaders, have been able to morph into monster mobs from "normal" people. Able to because it's a both-ways dynamic -- these people also chose the leaders they wanted and empowered them to monsterhood.

The dumbing down has been going on for decades, along with the lies and propaganda from the right wing. Critical thinking skills are mocked, intelligence and science are mocked, money and power are worshiped. Massacre of children in schools, or customers shopping, or patrons of movies, and people dancing, or worshiping or working is just another day in the US. Ho hum. Gotta' have our guns!

We're in for a world of hurt if Federal standards for elections are not signed into law. Republican controlled state legislatures are about to set themselves up for deciding who wins elections, and they aren't going to allow anyone other than Republicans to win critical elections.

The flaw in our system which has allowed the Senate to be controlled by states with more land and fewer people rather than states with more people has already brought us to this point.

We're in a world of hurt.
