I'm sure it's not his constituents, who undoubtedly want improved infrastructure and the ability to vote without obstruction.

(12,904 posts)Is an excellent question.
It deserves an answer. Manchins statement was straight up malarkey.

(57,489 posts)If Manchin says, "I'm going to vote with Biden come hell or high water," he loses his leverage.
If Manchin says, "I'm going to vote against Biden come hell or high water," he loses his leverage.
If Biden says, "I don't know how I'm going to vote," he has leverage.

(10,193 posts)Historically few states in the country have been damaged by corporate Republican policies as much as West Virginia. Unfortunately, too many working class and rural W.Va. voters have been bamboozled by all the usual media lies and appeals to racism.
Manchin could do so much for the working people of his state. Instead of showing his constituents the economic benefits of supporting Democratic party policies, Manchin would rather try to hang onto his job.

(3,404 posts)...in 2009 Blanch Lincoln, a democratic senator from Arkansas block the public option from becoming part of Obama care.
Lincoln was one of the blue dog Democrats the opportunistic group that opposed Obama because they feared their state had become conservative and since the Democrats had 60 total senate seats, they gained influence being a friction bearer to an Obama first term.
All of the blue dogs hoping to gain conservative support in their state lost to Republican candidates in their next election.
Never to worry, Lincoln took refuge in the lobbing industry with Blue Cross Blue Shield as her biggest client who was also her biggest contributor during the 2009 Heath care negotiations.
Isnt it always all about the money?

(96 posts)he wouldn't have fought to have unemployment benefits add-ons cut in the American Rescue Plan, and he wouldn't have put Brett Kavenaugh on the Supreme Court. He's already shown who he is, so we should take him at his word and move on to making him irrelevant after 2022 by electing more and better Democrats to the US Senate.

She was CEO of Mylan through the EpiPen price gouging scandal so there is some known questionable behavior in Manchin's immediate family. She is no longer Mylan CEO but I don't know what she is doing now that he could be trying to assist.
Or maybe he and his grifting corporate daughter privately love the GQP tax cuts and deregulation so much he wouldn't do anything to jeopardize them and hurt their stocks.

Replying to @schwartzbCNBC
The leaked Heritage Foundation tape specifically mentions how the right wing dark money groups had a little fun pressuring Manchin on SB1.

Plus: Koch operatives recently met with Manchins team on their telehealth stance. It cant be ruled out that they possibly spoke with them about their opposition to For the People Act.
