Lincoln Project Co-Founder Warns Trump 'Will Surely Kill Again' As 'Leader of an Authoritarian' GOP

Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt on Friday warned that former President Donald Trump's words have "caused bloodshed" and he will "surely kill again" in a series of tweets ahead of the ex-president's speech to the North Carolina Republican Party.

In a lengthy 11-post Twitter thread, Schmidt slammed the media for continuing to underestimate Trump and the alleged threat he poses to American Democracy after the ex-president permanently shut down his "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump" blog.

"Today is the third day of profoundly stupid media coverage around the demise of the Trump blog," Schmidt wrote. "Some have posited that Trump's loss, social media bans, and inability to sustain a blog are evidence of his decline, irrelevance and diminishment."

He added: "These people are fools and their delusions are dangerous for the survival of American democracy. We are at an hour that requires people to wake up. Trump is powerful and he is a clear and PRESENT danger to our democratic society and national stability."

Trump is way more influential than the next tier of right-wing manipulators: Hannity, Carlson and Murdoch (through Fox News). The wealthy conservative organizations who promote right-wing legislation are taking full advantage of Trumpism to propose legislation to destroy democracy in the US to maintain GOP power.

… gave permission for the dark side of our country to come out in the open and grow. Trump’s been real useful in legitimizing the mob, that was always here in one form or another.

We have always had a certain segment in this country for whom the Civil War never really ended, to whom fascism is quite attractive, who are anti-Semitic, misogynistic, racist, and all those other ugly traits naive people like myself thought we had nearly outgrown.

In Trump they found someone who didn’t even bother with a veneer of respectability, so they didn’t have to pretend the same. He gave them permission and egged them on. In return, they gave him the slobbering adoration he craves.

But when Trump finally kicks the bucket, they will still be here, ugly and stinking and above all, empowered.
