The White House press briefing room will return to 100% capacity on Monday after 15 months of social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It will be another step toward normality for President Joe Biden's press secretary Jen Psaki and the press corps and a reminder of the renewed centrality of the daily briefing. Under President Trump, there were long stretches when the press operation didn't schedule any briefings at all.
"Frankly, returning the briefing is something that sends a message to the world that we're not afraid to engage," Psaki said in an interview with CNN Chief Media Correspondent Brian Stelter Sunday. "We're not afraid. We believe in the free press."
Psaki spoke on CNN's "Reliable Sources" about what she called the "healthy push and pull" between the White House and members of the media, including right-wing outlets that oppose Biden's agenda and often demonize him personally.
"My point of view, and more importantly, the president's point of view, is that the story is not about me or a debate with news outlets," she said. "The story is about the plans of the administration and what we're trying to project to the American people. And when he pledged to govern for all Americans, that means talking to a range of outlets liberal, conservative, people who have different areas of interest. So that's exactly what I try to do every day in the briefing room."

(87 posts)She is the best person I have ever seen at that podium. She takes down the propaganda questions and she doesn't lie.
I am sad she will only be there for a short time.

(31,261 posts)is an adjunct profession and pretty well respected spokesperson. She is also LGBT and is married to a respected Journalist (one of the two, I dont remember which, has won a Putlizer Prize in Journalism). The Daily Briefing will be in good hands, IMO. Also, Psaki has two kids that are nearing K1-12 age, she indicated that she wanted to do something other that the high level grind of a high pressure spokesperson job so that she can have more time for her young kids (she has held past White House Press Office jobs, as well as State Department Spokesperson and several campaign spokesperson jobs), she has earned the right to tone down things for a while.

(54,411 posts)That does make more sense now, even though I'll miss her terribly. I also didn't know that her successor had been already designated (an adjunct profession?). LGBT or not is irrelevant to me, the only thing that matters is whether or not she is as good as the one she will be replacing.

(31,261 posts)In fact, she has been taking on more spokesperson responsibilities of late, especially when President Biden is traveling.

Nice to know that we now have a President that actually means it instead of rewarding his thieving associates and people to whom much is owed (yeah, I mean YOU, Vlad!).

(639 posts)Most of Fox 'reporters' are political plants, they are told what to ask and give up any true journalism credibility for a paycheck.
She should yank their passes and also create a probationary period, that can only be ended with an 85% approval of all the White House reporter pool, to allow a reporter back into the white House Press Corp. Let the reporters police themselves, for the most part, and keep the standard very high... 85% vote.
