Mondaire Jones Says Manchin Op-Ed Might as Well Be Titled 'Why I'll Vote to Preserve Jim Crow'

West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin is receiving backlash on Twitter over an op-ed piece he published in the Charleston Gazette-Mail where he explained why he would not be voting for the For the People Act—a point of view that has sparked backlash as well as a trending topic of "He's a Republican."

In the Sunday op-ed, the moderate Democrat from West Virginia said he was against the legislation because it had not garnered any Republican support. He felt a resolution for changes in voting rights should be reached with agreement from both parties.

"The right to vote is fundamental to our American democracy and protecting that right should not be about party or politics. Least of all, protecting this right, which is a value I share, should never be done in a partisan manner," Manchin wrote.

However, Manchin's defense of trying to seek a bipartisan solution was slammed on Twitter by some progressive Democrats. Democratic Congressman Mondaire Jones of New York tweeted that Manchin's op-ed "might as well be titled, 'Why I'll vote to preserve Jim Crow.'"

How can it be bi-partisan if the Republicans are trying to limit voter access? Where does the compromise come in?

He’s bought and well-paid for. If his ass doesn’t switch parties, I’ll be shocked.

He won’t be the deciding vote. Dems or Repubs will gain a couple seats and he’ll be irrelevant. That’s when I expect him to switch. There is no question in my mind he’s being promised the world to continue to be Republican’s firewall until they can cheat their way back into power.

Warnock’s seat is toast, as the GA legislature won’t allow his win to be certified in 2022.

HR1/For the People Act would prevent such corrupt chicanery.

get him re-elected in WV. Screw the country and the constitution. If he turned Republican he would just be another Senator. As a Democrat he is the most powerful
person in DC.
