Sen. Joe Manchin on Thursday strongly defended the Koch brothers from attacks by fellow Democrats, saying the wealthy and politically active businessmen are taxpaying Americans who are creating jobs.
People want jobs. You dont beat up people. I mean, I dont agree with their politics or philosophically, but, you know, theyre Americans, theyre doing paying their taxes, Manchin said on Fox Newss Fox & Friends.
Theyre not breaking the law. Theyre providing jobs, he added.
When asked whether Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids attacks on the Koch brothers helps or hurts the cause for the country and the Congress, the West Virginia senator said its people in the middle that need to be reached.
If youre trying to rally the base, the bases have already been rallied. The right and left bases have been rallied, Manchin said. Its us in the middle that have to start making something happen here in Washington to move this country forward.

Still. If he can look at what those two have done and not see the problem, I'm inclined to think this isn't about any kind of policy with him. It's about his ego and the hagiography of himself he has going on in his own mind.

The Koch Brothers are hardly the middle. ALEC American legislative exchange council* (massive gerrymandering),
Americans for Prosperity/Tea party, Scott Walker Wisconsin, Gov. Synder Michigan (flint water problems),
Ohio John Kasich killing high speed rail, billions of dollars to deny science and climate change, backing Rush
Limbaugh, the Heterodox Academy, and ....

I grew up in the north, near Lake Erie. Knew some good folks in Cleveland. But the politics has always sucked.
