This reminded me of "beating swords into ploughshares"!

..."PC Richard Thomas of South Wales Police came up with the idea when he was asked to dispose of a pile of old shields during lockdown - and he could not bear to see the non-recyclable plastics head to landfill.
About 200 shields have now been donated to schools and other organisations in the form of greenhouses.
Other forces are now in discussion about developing the idea to put to use in other ways in future.

this flag is based on that biblical verse. it's the flag of the irish citizens army.
i fly it proudly.

(70,260 posts)thx for giving me a shove.
so, there are so many images of that flag, that i was having trouble finding one i could link to on this f'ing pad.
the link i grabbed was an irish studies page.
down i went.
it turns out that the green harp is the flag my actual ancestors flew.
my ggggreat uncle was michael dwyer. he was a leader of the 1798 irish rebellion.
turns out the fact that it predates the brits makes it a symbol of a united ireland.
it's why it's on everything.

Its not like this reflects any change in policy; theyre just getting new shields and didnt want the old ones going to landfill.

(14,025 posts)always a good thing.
And, I build "up-cycled" greenhouses as a business, so I enjoyed this novel material re-use.
Thanks for the report Tanuki.

Though you may be able to find someone by looking for traditional greenhouse builders, or solarium or such.
We take down large steel glass houses and reuse the cypress bars and glass, and re-work them into antique sun rooms, solariums and Victorian style greenhouses.
