Joe Manchin and "Remains of the Day"

I am reminded of the scene in Remains of the Day were James Fox is negotiating with the Nazis for peace.
All the while the Nazis are taking stock of treasures in Fox's home for when they invade.
Manchin is Fox and he falsely believes the Republicans are reasonable, and not power mad fascists.

I mean, he (and all the other supporters/pundits) can say all kinds of things about why and what it means, but that's the bottom line, as far as I can tell.
