I'm a member of a FB nostalgia group focused on my home town. I haven't lived there for almost 60 years, but I still have old friends who live there, so I'm in that group.
I'm in the middle of some complicated banking transactions that involve a small bank in that town. However, it turns out that the branch manager is also a member of the same FB group. In my first contact with her, she said she liked my posts about old times in my home town. She's helping me streamline the transaction.
Thanks, Facebook!

Now how about giving us a free promo and asking Mark Zuckerberg to pay his taxes and stop helping enemies of democracy?

(146,336 posts)He's not in any of my FB groups, and isn't on my short list of friends there. Clearly, my point here is that the site offers opportunities to network with people of your own choosing and to be part of groups with common goals. Many people find that very useful. There are not a lot of places where you can do that as easily.

She took her work, the stocking she was knitting,
And watched the rain upon the window glare
In white, bright drops.
Through the black glass a flare
Of lightning squirmed about her needles.
"Oh!" She cried.
"What can be keeping Theodore so!"

That's very kind of you.
ETA: I must admit, though, that I can't find any logic in the inclusion of a quote from Amy Lowell's poem in your reply. Perhaps you intended to send me a subtle message. If so, I'm not getting it, despite having written papers on her poetry while in grad school. She is a very interesting literary historical figure, to be sure, but I can't find any relevance in your quotation.
