I can't believe some of the things I have been reading here lately. Frankly, it's shameful and the mods need to step up.

Hosts
Forum Hosts are regular DU members who meet certain eligibility requirements. Any DU member who meets these requirements may volunteer to serve as a Forum Host. If no Hosts are assigned to a particular forum, the DU Administrators serve as Hosts. Forum Hosts have one responsibility: They lock threads which they believe violate a forum's Statement of Purpose.
There is a maximum quota of 30 Hosts. Hosts cannot serve for more than 90 consecutive days and must maintain a 100% chance of serving on a jury.

(11,744 posts)Someone might say, "Hillary Clinton could have been a better candidate had she gone to Michigan and campaigned there." To which one would disagree saying, "I think that there was too much sexism and a 30 year sleaze campaign that had it in for Hillary no matter what".
When someone says or implies that the victims of crimes of hate bring those crimes upon themselves, that is not a mere disagreement, that is dangerous to the victims of those crimes.
Like saying to a woman who was raped, "Well, what were you wearing, and were you drinking?" Would that be a mere statement that you would disagree with?

(11,744 posts)You have a very complex situation in the Middle East. You have Israel, which has clearly committed crimes against the Palestinians. And, you also have groups like Hamas that have committed crimes against Israelis.
There is some truth to what Rep Omar is saying. We definitely side more with Israel and frame the situation as Hamas is the bad guy and poor Israel is the put upon hero. Truth is that this whole mess was started by colonial powers and the US interfering in the region for their own gain, over a hundred years ago and then wondering, "Oh when will these people stop fighting". Palestinians are treated as second class citizens at best. They are rightfully angry, but they also launch rocket attacks regularly, threatening Israeli civilians.
Neither side appears willing to move toward an equitable solution to the situation.
What we are talking about here are 2 groups of people that have been victimized throughout history for similar but differing reasons. Israel serves a purpose for powerful people and the Palestinians serve a different purpose.
