(63,221 posts)It's not something that happens in one fell swoop. It happens by degrees until one day you wake up and it's too late to turn back. It's done.
We are not taking this seriously enough and we are not fighting back hard enough. We have a very short window in which to act and if we don't do so, SOON, we will have missed our chance and some of us may never live under a democratic system again in our lifetimes.
Once they take over it is going to be very difficult, if not impossible, to restore democracy and order without a bloody revolution.

(58,785 posts)services away from the working classes who pay for them. Like education.
Privatizing and profitizing public schools has had modest success so far, but in places has succeeded in shifting significant public investment from all to a few. Eliminating taxpayer-supported universal compulsory elementary education (a huge expense) awaits the power to impose it.
Turning higher education into a profit center doesn't just require students to run deep in debt, combined with low wage levels for those without, it strongly discourages "unnecessary" higher education of citizens in general. Of course, the anti-tax/anti-government/anti-democracy forces have had their greatest successes here.
Too blatant repurposing of a state's public education and college system to limit it to training workers for state industry may be rejected, but quiet and broad cuts to curricula have succeeded.

(12,480 posts)I used to watch rt on dish.
Now I have Verizon because of some deal my HUD housing company did and I can't have net access unless I get Verizon.
I miss RT. And the free speech channel. Wish I could force all the providers to carry it like they always shove religion channels, shopping channels ,sport channels, and faux ,Oan..etc. down my throat and making me pay for all these bullshit channels.
Wish like hell they were forced to give us the channels we want.
Truly ala'carte.

(11,688 posts)I can believe Thom had negative feedback for his RT broadcast platform, but what really motivated him was:
Compelled to register as agents of a hostile foreign power, the networks American employees might flee like rats from a sinking ship. Theres already a sign this may be happening: Two days after RT revealed it had been asked by the Justice Department to register under FARA, progressive radio host Thom Hartmann, who has helmed a show on the network since 2010, announced his departure.
