One word: Blackmail.
This is a nightmare. Trump should pay for the way he abused his power.

Nothing will happen to TFG. Everything he did as POTUS is 'moot' according to every frigging judge so far.

(11,885 posts)Like they are likely doing to Joe Manchin now. Its a long used putin and trump tactic. Expect more people getting exposed having this done to them by these two using foreign intel, and wiretapping, and hacking personal information for use against them . Graham, Cruz and others very likely had this done to them.

(46,735 posts)There is no way our Democracy will hold if politicians aren't allowed to follow their own conscience. It's already an uphill climb to find a Republican who has one.

(3,395 posts)That is the way the mafia works, also the way Putin works, and the way trump has worked all his life. There have to be so many skeletons that trump owns and I hope they come out soon.

(46,735 posts)Anyone who is buying votes through blackmail should be incarcerated. THIS is what is destabilizing our Democracy.

(5,130 posts)Forgive my presumption, but anyone who is buying votes period should be incarcerated. You are correct, it IS destabilizing our Democracy, but the real reason for this is a marked lack of concern for all vote buying, not just the ones that have been 'bought' through illegal means.

(19,962 posts)the last 4 years, there had to have been multiple DOJ staff involvement, who just went along with whatever shit that Barr and Sessions got up to. It's a bit like the public service workers in Nazi Germany just following orders.

(32,645 posts)... but it quickly morphed into "creating information," and that's exactly what Rudy was trying to do in the Ukraine and elsewhere. Rudy wasn't working for the Dept. of Justice, but he did work on behalf of Chump and his evil empire.
I sincerely hope the DoJ was not enabling The Former Guy, but ... you know ... so many shocking truths haven't come out yet.

(50,955 posts)that Donny Bodybags did to undermine our Democracy: his constant scandals and crimes made us unable to respond to transgressions of government in a way that is proportionate to their magnitude.
This is huge. This is historically diabolical. But we have had so many scandals wash over us, we will treat this like just another one of them.
As such, the consequences for those who did this will be as inconsequential as the consequences have been for all the other scandals. Which means this is now how we do business.
And that is the greatest danger we face as a country.

(21,359 posts)Trump uses projection, he claimed over and over that president Obama was spying on him, that the Justice department was spying on him, when in fact he was the one doing the spying. Even when it was pointed out that a judge had to OK surveillance that wasn't good enough. Well Democrats had better look into who OKayed this shit, and don't stop with Barr.
