I've been reluctant to get here, figured there were other means to the needed end.
But republicans have shown they're not gonna investigate themselves via any kind of committee, and the straight-up weaponization of the justice dept... well, someone else here described it as HISTORICALLY diabolical. I think that's correct.
I know that NO ONE actually wants it to happen...GOP got spooked via Iran-Contra, and dems were correct to criticize ken starr for all kinds of partisan asshole-ery...theres long memories in Congress.
An IP can truly be a blunt object weaponized (no scalpels here folks), but I think its time.

(12,311 posts)This is the madness that Trump has wrought. I'll never forget a friend of mind saying the morning Trump was elected - "don't worry. we survived Bush, we will survive Trump". Well clearly some of us did Not survive Trump. I'm not so sure the system is surviving Trump. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I don't know how to post a link to the article but the Washington Post reported yesterday that the Inspector General released a report saying the tear gassing of Lafayette Square on June 1 was part of a plan made days earlier to build a fence around the park to protect officers, not to facilitate the visit minutes later by Trump to the church for his photo op.
Just be prepared for this kind of bullshit.

(7,017 posts)of another 3 year Mueller type "investigation" or as you mention the Lafayette square report that goes nowhere. The truth and the facts are the 1st things that disappear in an investigation then the rule of law.

(16,110 posts)likely to happen though.
It has already started.
Again, I will be overjoyed to be proven wrong, but we've all seen this before, nothing ever changes, no one gets charged, no one faces any consequences whatsoever.
Apparently anything any Republican does while a Republican is president is all protected under "official presidential duties".

(10,903 posts)Maybe it is needed, but it could also let the events fade from people's minds.
I think we need something now. A congressional inquiry, perhaps.
