So what happened to student loan forgiveness and pot rescheduling?

These were supposed to be easy slam dunks that could quickly be achieved without congress.

Two things that would help lower income people save money and and not be branded criminals for engaging in freedom.

I know there are bigger things to get done and I always hear the argument ' lets worry about x y and z first before these'.

B.S. Its always better to knock out the small easy things first while you are getting bogged down and obstructed on the big things.

Otherwise your time is up and you end up with half a big thing and none of the small things getting done.

Biden says he thinks he only wants to cancel 10 thousand in debt and not more. Fine do it then what are you waiting for? Provide that immediate relief now.

He is also in charge of the dea and all it will take is one phone call from biden to get cannabis taken off the schedule list.

That is something that i will never forgive obama for when he had the power to do it and refused.

The Act provides a process for rescheduling controlled substances by petitioning the Drug Enforcement Administration. The first petition under this process was filed in 1972 to allow cannabis to be legally prescribed by physicians. The petition was ultimately denied after 22 years of court challenges, but a synthetic pill form of cannabis's psychoactive ingredient, THC, was rescheduled in 1986 to allow prescription under schedule II.[1] In 1999, it was again rescheduled to allow prescription under schedule III.

A second petition, based on claims related to clinical studies, was denied in 2001. The most recent rescheduling petition filed by medical cannabis advocates was in 2002, but it was denied by the DEA in July 2011. Subsequently, medical cannabis advocacy group Americans for Safe Access filed an appeal, Americans for Safe Access v. Drug Enforcement Administration in January 2012 with the District of Columbia Circuit, which was heard on 16 October 2012 and denied on 22 January 2013.

They will get done. If they don’t get done, my guess is there wasn’t the desire. Feel free to wonder why that desire wouldn’t be there. I can’t think of any reasons that don’t involve extremely cynical political calculations that start from a right wing framework.

The 301 Tariffs on unfinished goods from China are my "two things ".

I'm willing to take a back seat and get HR4 and an Infrastructure bill passed.

Infrastructure (Green Focused) gets people in high paying jobs without college degrees, and is inherently made in the USA. HR4 guarantees we have a shot at holding the House - because it gives Kristen Clarke the framework to go after voter suppression based on race.

I suspect the administration is pulling together the research, medical experts, law enforcement, and other key groups so that the anti-cannabis group will have no chance of blowing up the effort.

I'm 99% confident that this will get done.

The student loan will seriously damage the party and could be a huge negative factor in the mid-terms. Many groups will be alienated by this idea.
People who worked hard and paid off their loans ...
People who worked while in school and didn't take out loans ...
People who didn't go to college because they couldn't afford it ...
Parents who scrimped and saved to pay for their kids schooling ...
People who believe that if you sign the papers and take the money, you pay it back (No buyers remorse on the public dime)

If this becomes a real effort prepare to see commercials with kids on spring break in Cancun - Tagline: financed by a loan YOU are forgiving.
Prepare to see doctors and lawyers thanking the President for the forgiving part of their loan.

It really won't play well outside of the deep blue districts.

Disclosure: I paid off my student loans working a second job.

It just won't

I guess that won’t be happening.

So nothing happened to it, it was never on the table.

$10K is meaningless, maybe that gets done though. But changing the PAYE (Pay as You Earn) option from 10% of disposable income to 5% is his plan that's being negotiated right now, it will not take an act of Congress, this will be the rules that are enacted by the DofE. Halving payments for the worst of borrowers is life changing!
