One thing that came to mind about the DOJ spying thing -- If they could do it to Democrats, they could also do it to Republicans (or anyone else, for that matter).
And you wonder why Lindsay Graham and so many other GOP'ers fell in line so quickly after he took office.

(33,162 posts)Likely a so-called investigation was begun on 1) People TFG wanted to control and/or 2) People TFG wanted gone.
Of course, the investigations were sure to find something... Even if it was as fictitious as TFG's health records.
You have to recall, the DoJ was openly operating as the would be dicktater's personal law firm for much of the time.

We can just go down the list.
Take a tactical page from the bad guys. Repetition! WE can do that, too!

(115 posts)It was always surmised that trump must have had some incriminating info on Graham and others for them to do such an aboutface on their opinions of him. This gives more credence to that belief.

(269,049 posts)Anyone that has been around a narcissist knows that they get the dirt not only their enemies, but also anyone around them so they can use the "dirt" they find to control them.
All those republicans in DC that kiss up to trump are doing so in order to make sure trump doesn't air their "dirty laundry". The days of putting country over party, or in this case country over "trump", are long gone.

(3,395 posts)One day Graham is calling trump deserved names, like "cook", "incompetent", "not fit for office", etc. (telling the truth about the SOB) and next day after a golf outing he becomes a lap dog.
McCarthy for once tells the truth and calls out trump about the January 6 insurrection, next day he comes out of Mar-A-Lago a "new born", converted lap dog as Graham.
And how about Moscow Mitch??? And Gym Jordan???, Gaetz, Rubio, etc. mafia trump the buffoon has dirt on all of them, and like a good mafia criminal, if they didn't have it before? the buffoon made sure to place it on their laps.
They all know who trump the buffoon is, what he is, and I am sure they hate his guts, but they love their freedom much more.

(1,990 posts)But I'm not as convinced it explains more than just a few. I mean, Trump and Trump alone would have to have gained concrete, verifiable information on criminal acts that these folks would supposedly been involved in. Again, it would have to be information nobody else could obtain. This just isn't possible. Embarrassing personal stuff? Sure. But things that they would be afraid of actually going to jail for that nobody else could find out about? I just don't think so.

(14,764 posts)He had an unlicensed massage parlor on site. He had underaged immigrant staff. He had cameras everywhere. He was obsessed with what his "guests" said and did while at the "resort".
And being republicans, they lapped all the freebies up.
It was really that easy in a lot of cases.

(1,990 posts)That once Trump was gone maybe a few Republicans would bite the bullet and run to DOJ and disclose that Trump was blackmailing them. And maybe they have and we'll hear about it soon. If you think about it, this would be super hush-hush and not leaked until the indictment was ready.

Trump was the tip of the authoritarian spear that congressional republicans wanted, even if they didn't know it ahead of time.

(1,990 posts)You don't start with accurately calling Trump a crook and dangerous, go golfing with him once and decide he is the greatest person in the history of the world and above reproach because you were simply all wrong about the guy. Trump's buddy at the Enquirer got pictures of Graham in a compromising situation, probably with a teenage male lover and you can take it to the bank. Ted Cruz is just a piece of garbage. That's the only explanation needed for him. Graham is being blackmailed.
Politicub
(12,165 posts)No one has evidence of him being blackmailed, beyond unsubstantiated rumors that keep being repeated.
He's a craven, political animal. Republicans always get in line -- no blackmail necessary.
