Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) on Thursday announced he will sign legislation to ban state police from enforcing federal gun laws.
Under the "Second Amendment Preservation Act," federal gun laws that regulate registration for weapons and the tracking and possession of weapons by domestic violence offenders will no longer be enforced, according to the Kansas City Star.
Gun control advocates and Democrats have slammed the bill as a "domestic violence loophole" and dangerous, noting that Missouri faces high rates of gun violence and had the nation's third-highest per-capita rate of gun deaths in 2020, the news outlet reported.
While federal law bans those convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors from possessing a firearm, Missouri passed a measure in 2016 that allowed for people to carry a concealed firearm, relieving state sheriffs from conducting background checks.

Of all the second amendment arguments this has to be one of the dumbest.

(1,666 posts)...we tell our blue state LEO they cant enforce federal immigration laws, that if the feds want to, good luck they wont get any help, and we make marijuana legal at the state level ignoring that it is illegal that the state level.
All things I agree with, but...
You should not be shocked that the other side will do the same with their pet issues. Even if we passed a ban on semi-autos, they will make them legal in their state and no rural cop will turn people he hunts and shoots with over guns he has in his house as well.
And Trump tried to punish sanctuaries by withholding federal money, but got slapped down saying he could not. So now we have precedent for states being allowed to ignore laws they dont like.
Good luck

I thought we'd be heading there next with this push to liberalize Gun Laws everywhere.
After all, a Tommy Gun is JUST LIKE a Swiss Army Knife!

Where the state of Missouri will lose and lose badly. Apparently they don't have anything else going on in the state than to tilt at windmills and waste tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars. Republicans are hilarious when they start in on government waste, fraud and abuse because some single mother got an extra $7 on her SNAP benefits card and blew it on food or some other extravagance.
