Phone security is a huge thing on the Hill and keeping phones secure for Members is a major IT priority. Burner phones would pose a real problem.

Not saying they are, nor am I saying this is a good idea ... but just curious in what way(s) they are less secure, as I didn't know that about them.

But when I worked in government, we weren't allowed to use our own phones for government business and definitely couldn't use burner phones. One of the problems was that every phone issued to a Member or staff had to have certain software and encryption and other technology loaded onto it and the phones also had to be registered with and connected to IT. Members just can't use their own or burner phones for official business.

to Congresspeople, which have special software and encryption making them even better than normal, they are less so.

Makes sense. Thx.

hold of my phone records. Members have all kinds of contacts and conversations that are perfectly legal and above board but that the executive branch - especially a corrupt one - needs to know about.

For example, Trump and Barr did not have any business knowing who Schiff and Nadler were talking to during the impeachment proceedings.

And of course Trump had no business there. That's what much of today's conversation has been about. But what if credible witnesses testified to a Grand Jury tomorrow that several named Congressmen were plotting to assasinate President Biden? We don't know what information the Grand Jury was acting on, and we may never know. We do know Barr was smart enough to make them Grand Jury subpoenas. Clever use of the Grand Jury system to cloake things in secrecy. And unethical if not illegal in my opinion.
