Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLearned today that the Pfizer vac is the only one that
keeps replicating antibodies so is expected to offer more lasting protection. Went for a stress/echo test and the tech has a nerd buddy that called him to relay this info to him. He had the Pfizer as did I so we were happy together over this news. Just wanted to pass this info on.

(4,442 posts)and based on that we're to believe the Pfizer is the only one that provides lasting protection? I think I'll wait for more reliable sources before I believe this.

(44,973 posts)It doesn't enter the nucleus and is not incorporated into the genome. Thus it's not going to be "replicating antibodies" long term.

(44,973 posts)I can't envision a nurse saying "too bad" to any of the vaccines, LOL.

(58,785 posts)get boosters should they be necessary, and in the meantime Covid has spread among billions around the planet who still have no access to any vaccine.
By chance Pfizer was the one I got. But after the initial feeling of relief and freedom I'm still masking, disinfecting hands, and the rest because 1) Pfizer's probably not as effective against what they're now calling the "delta" variant from India (which is here in GA), 2 and 3) I'm both high risk and immune suppressed to begin with, lessening efficacy to an unknown degree, and 4) in my area of north GA the vaccination rate may still be as low as 20% or below.
Oh, well. Truck on.

(44,973 posts)The only one that keeps replicating antibodies? What does that even mean?
Someone's nerd buddy is hardly a reputable source. Pardon me while I go and stick a key to my foreahead.

(2,351 posts)Protein. Saying the vaccine "replicates antibodies" is really wrong and I would be very skeptical about what that nerd said.
Disaffected
(4,556 posts)would that not prompt the immune system to keep producing antibodies against it?
LisaL
(44,973 posts)In fact Pfizer is less stable than Moderna, at least before being injected into the body (thus requiring colder storage temperatures).
So how would the cells keep "chugging out" spike protein, given that vaccines are quickly degraded, and once degraded, spike protein is no longer being made.
Disaffected
(4,556 posts)I said if they did. And if they vaccine degrades rapidly, then yeah, the OP claim is likely questionable.
As well I suspect if the claim were true, we would have heard of it by now from more reliable sources...

(6,278 posts)I wouldn't put much stock in this anecdote - the two should have broadly similar effects.

Oh shit, just realized if push the latter, republicans would get the shot. On second thought, nah.

(6,477 posts)This is the state of STEM education today.
We long ago stopped believing that we could educate a broad public in advanced philosophy or mathematics, but we still somehow believe that we can spread "scientific literacy." Maybe it's time we review the assumptions there. Of course, it's very "elitist" to say that publics can't learn science as a rule. But maybe that doesn't make it untrue. We've had at least 60 years of a concerted campaign of public science. We get anti-vaxxers, flat earthers, this stuff. Maybe it's not possible.
