'He was on Facebook saying he wanted to kill women and children': Cop says man who shot dead grandmother and her one-year-old grandson could have been stopped if police were told of his postings, but 'You think a damn soul told us? NO'A furious sheriff condemned the friends and family of a gunman who murdered a grandmother and her one year-old grandson for not reporting his bloodcurdling Facebook threats to kill.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw could not contain the anger in his voice as he hit out at friends and relatives of Timothy J. Wall, 55, a day after he killed a 69 year-old grandma and her toddler grandson at a Publix in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
Wall is not believed to have known either of his victims, with cops currently treating the double-murder suicide as a horrific random attack.

Bradshaw said: 'Somebody knew about it, that bad things were going to happen with this guy; and number 2 is, obviously, there's a mental unstableness involving this.'
He added: 'There was a chance this could be stopped - you know why? The reason is - he's on Facebook. He has said "I want to kill people and children." He's got friends. Obviously they saw that.'
'His ex wife say's he's been acting strange. He thinks he's being followed. he's paranoid,' Bradshaw continued. 'You think a damn soul told us about that? No.'

The gunman who stalked and then fatally shot a grandmother and her 1-year-old grandson inside a Florida supermarket had been threatening to kill people, including children, on his Facebook page but no one reported him, a Florida sheriff said Friday.
Timothy J. Wall, 55, had been making the threats for some time before he walked into a Publix in Royal Palm Beach on Thursday, stalked his victims in the produce aisle before first shooting the child and then the woman before killing himself, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his detectives said. Detectives have found no connection between Wall and the woman.
He has said, I want to kill people and children. Hes got friends. Obviously, they saw that. His ex-wife said that he has been acting strange. He thinks he is being followed. Hes paranoid. Do you think a damn soul told us about that? No, Bradshaw said at a press conference. If it sounds like Im angry, I am.

(9,988 posts)Because he was a white man, and white men's rights to own guns and spout off hate are always upheld as "freedom of speech".
LONG history of women being stalked and terrorized by guys like this, and the legal system generally brushes them off and say "well there's nothing we can do" and "what did you do to provoke him?" and never take the calls for help seriously. EVERY SINGLE TIME in the last two decades someone like this has gone off and killed people, there were ALWAYS warning signs. Always.
edit: I want to add - this sheriff is so angry because this man killed random people he didn't know. But if he'd killed his own mother and his own child, this would be just written off as a "domestic" and it probably wouldn't make national news. Domestic violence is so normalized, we have this ingrained belief that killing your own family is somehow not as bad as killing strangers. It is though. It really is.

(4,175 posts)People who live in "I got me some guns and I'm gonna carry it around because...freedom...something" States are never taken seriously until the murders begin. Fortunately there's massive amounts of thoughts and prayers to couteract any real danger.

(7,947 posts)Don't judge me. But in many of them, there's someone the killer told before or after, often several people come and those people almost never call the police or tell anyone else..
I suppose before maybe they just don't believe them. But afterwards after someone is killed, the idea that they would keep this secret for decades sometimes is pretty appalling. But common, at least in the murders that make it onto a podcast.

(3,615 posts)And the distain in Florida for red flag laws I would say the Sherriff was wrong. Not much would have been done, if anything.

(7,639 posts)friends and relatives said they DID contact the sheriffs department and nothing happened. I think Bradshaw might be trying to cover his ass.

I get the idea that stuff like this should be reported, and I don't dispute that, but if there are 1000 false alarms for every real threat, reporting it might be a long shot.
1000-to-1 is just a random example number I made up. It could be 5 to 1, it could be 42,000-to-1, I haven't got a clue. I don't even know if solid statistics are out there with which to make an educated guess.

(2,499 posts)Sort of like how militias were suppose to protect our country, until they proved how useless they were on the battlefield. Hence why the US Army was re-established in the late 1790's.

(436 posts)And it seems every Sheriff I see from Florida on television is a drama queen. Always trying to out badass each other. When in reality if 10 people would have called him he would have said " Well, he committed no crimes yet, so there is nothing we can do "
This guy is no different. He is just trying to cover his own ass.
