I think this later Star Trek Voyager episode, when traveling at high speed SOMEHOW transformed people into salamander-like creatures that procreated salamander offspring, crossed the line for me.
calimary
(81,527 posts)Confession: that episode had me worrying about the three offspring left behind (after Mom and Dad turned back into humans again). How dorky is that?

(4,044 posts)This ep was truly cringeworthy.

Of course none of the regulars could die, so every week we would wait after the cast intro for, And special guest Star this week...... and we would know that guy was a goner.
LT Barclay
(2,609 posts)like that.
When she was watching, I'd come in the room and ask "who is this week's DDG?" (designated dead guy) and she'd tell me to leave the room.

(13,874 posts)When they have to investigate a completely unknown planet where the entire population was just killed mysteriously, who do they put on the Away Team? The second ranking officer, the genius robot who runs the ship, the heads of Security and Engineering, and, for some unknown reason, either the attractive doctor or the attractive ships counselor.
If they were to die, all of the top officers would be gone. But dont worry, there will always be an unknown crew member in a red shirt to serve as a sacrifice.

(5,789 posts).... it was on a b&w set. The red shirt thing was not visible. Wasn't until the first movie that I realized there was any color to the uniforms at all. Kind of blew my eyes out.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,858 posts)... didn't have a good enough antenna to even watch it. So he'd ride his bicycle for miles to our grandparents' home to see it!
He was always a science geek, like how I turned out too, but Star Trek reruns were plentiful on TV by the time I was watching the show. Hence it seemed a bit extreme to me for anyone to travel for miles just to watch it. He replied, "TV shows generally sucked in those days, so it was worth it to me."
reACTIONary
(5,789 posts)... there were some good ones, like Star Trek, Laugh In.... But when I think back on how much time I wasted sitting in front of the tube, it's saddening.

(14,858 posts)My oldest brother probably watched much less TV than me when we were kids. I played outside with friends frequently too, but my impression is that he played outside more than me based on his stories.

(24,341 posts)The Cincinnati Reds were up like 11-0 in the 7th.
We were watching the game in a bar. I said we should leave
He said he wanted to stay.
I said the game was over
He said you never know
I said again I wanted to leave and there was no chance for the Giants
He said, "Maybe Kirk, Mc Coy and Spock will beam down."
We stayed
They didn't. The Giants lost
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,858 posts)... my oldest brother (mentioned above in this thread) said he was often unconcerned that the "Big Red Machine" would lose even after trailing late into games. And he mentioned the Giants specifically, saying their fans must've developed an intense hatred for the Reds in those days because it was like no lead was big enough for them to lose in the end. Not every game, of course, but it was his impression that the Reds overcame big deficits against them especially.
