Iowa Gov. Reynolds signs law limiting teachings related to racism and sexism

A new law signed by Governor Kim Reynolds on Tuesday will ban teaching of divisive concepts in public schools.

Within the states classrooms, educators will no longer be allowed to have conversations surrounding:

The state or nation being systemically racist or sexist.
An individual is inherently racist, sexist or oppressive.
Feeling discomfort or guilt because of someone's race or sex.

While the law does not specifically mention the Critical Race Theory, Governor Reynolds mentioned in a statement about the law.

"Critical Race Theory is about labels and stereotypes, not education. It teaches kids that we should judge others based on race, gender, or sexual identity, rather than the content of someone's character," said Gov. Reynolds.

Those opposed to the law said it is vague and confusing. ACLU of Iowa said it is creating an issue that does not exist.

"This new law is clearly designed to limit frank and honest conversations of U.S. history and present day reality. And how could that possibly be good to for our state?" said executive director, Mark Stringer.

who purposely teaches American history replete with racism and/or sexism. Then in the tradition of John Scopes, a trial with either jury nullification or a guilty verdict that goes to the USSC where the First Amendment will be on trial. But then again, with this panel of justices, one never knows.

Does your State have laws to deny that systemic racism existed? If so your State Government is in fact rascist. I would just call them Jim Crow States.

teach that women and racial minorities have no right to speak up about injustice; only white males have that right in her eyes and those of the Iowa Republican party, because they are the only ones to ever have experienced injustice.

How do they experience injustice you ask? By non-male, non-white people having...well, anything (rights, life, families, jobs, etc.) they really are a giant crop of whiny babies who want to know "Why do other people continue to exist!"

I may be slightly hostile toward Republicans in this state who have, in the nearly 20 years I've lived here turned it from a fairly pleasant place to one where I don't want to live anymore. I'm encouraging my kids to get out when they finish college. There are places where rational people are in charge.

It’s an extremely slippery slope. Once you start prohibiting teaching truth you’re lurching into Autocracy.

Not sure where this country is headed, it’s alarming, we have to fight back hard.....a startling percentage of people have lost their minds thanks to Decades of right wing propaganda.

But....this White Nationalism sickness is nothing new as Sarah Churchwell points out in her book “Behold America”.

"Critical Race Theory is about labels and stereotypes, not education. It teaches kids that we should judge others based on race, gender, or sexual identity, rather than the content of someone's character," said Gov. Reynolds.

Said from someone who is a member of a political party and movement that does nothing but judge people based on race, gender, or sexual identity, rather than the content of someone's character.

Kids will turn to YouTube, TikTok, their parents, and each other to pass on information for better or worse. All this does is teach them that the state is lying to them.

The ideas behind CRT are generally very provable with statistics. The system is biased as when there is no equity, there can be no equality.
